Memorie.al publishes an article published in 1963 in the magazine “Shejzat” published in Rome by the famous researcher, poet, writer and exponent of the Albanian political diaspora in the West, Ernsest Koliqi, who takes the trigger and refers to an article in the magazine “November” of August 1961, where a great echo is made of Enver Hoxha’s meeting with Albanian writers and artists held at that time in Tirana. Analysis of the article published in “Shejzat” with the pseudonym “Kosovari”, where the author mentions some of the Albanian artists and writers, quoting their statements “about the Party and Enver”, highlighting only Fatos Arapi, the famous poet who does not makes a fuss with the regime ”. In that article, the author also reflects the words of Enver Hoxha, where the communist leader tells how he met his old friend Eqerem Çabej, after 30 years, shaking his hand, “because he did not commit crimes like Ernest Koliqi ”, etc. In that article, where the notary “Kosovari” has openly accused the Albanian communist leader, Enver Hoxha of crimes and the elimination of some of the personalities of Albanian culture, such as: Vincens Prenushi, Et’hem Haxhiademi, Hamit Kokalar, Musine Kokalar, etc.
In addition to political developments in Albania, for 45 years the main leaders and exhibitors of the Albanian anti-communist emigration to the West, followed with great attention the development of arts and culture in their homeland. This is clearly seen in a long article published in 1963 in Ernest Koliqi’s Shëjzat magazine published in Rome, in which the entire conversation of Albanian writers and artists with Enver Hoxha is analyzed, in a meeting held. in August 1961. The article in the magazine, directed by Koliqi, is based on the magazine “Nëntori”, a body of the League of Writers and Artists of Albania, which at that time devoted a large part of its pages to the conversation of communist leaders of Tirana with writers and artists. In addition to quoting the words of some of the artists and writers participating in that meeting, in the article of the magazine “Shëjzat” entitled: “Simple comparative view”, the word of Enver Hoxha is given, where he stopped and spoke about the scientist and great Albanian, prominent linguist and academic, Prof. Eqerem Çabej. As mentioned above in this article, where the author “Kosovari” has openly accused the Albanian communist leader of crimes and the elimination of some of the personalities of Albanian culture, such as: Vincens Prenushi, Et’hem Haxhiademi, Hamit Kokalar, Musine Kokalar, etc. but also from all the political activity and also the literary-artistic and study of Ernest Koliqi throughout his life in exile, where he has openly declared himself as a determined opponent of the communist regime of Enver Hoxha, it is not difficult to understand that: at no point in his life has Koliqi ever been held hostage by that regime. In this article, Memorie.al has selected some parts from that article published in “Shëjzat” in 1963, which we are publishing below.
The word of writers and artists in the meeting with Enver Hoxha

There is no greater pleasure for us when we see that our work is valued and appreciated, when we read that ‘In the great work that the Party does for the communist education of the masses, writers and artists have been a strong support with their works, have exerted a sound influence on the formation of the young man ‘. (p. 45)
Sterjo Spasse (writer), the aforementioned author of “Bota e Hiçit”, after he started his speech with a cynical contempt for the time he gave the opportunities and the full permission to be informed in Albanian letters, continues on p. 48 “We thank our Party and our Leader, we thank them with flesh and blood because under their wise and far-sighted leadership our national pride was renewed and strengthened, because all over the world the personality of our people is felt and honored, and even honored. of those who hate us to death! ”

Andrea Varfi (writer) begins: “The decision of the Central Committee of P.P. of Albania ‘On further development, etc.’ and the words of comrade Ramiz (Alija) fill our hearts with joy, because they are another living testimony that declares once again to the world that we workers of art and literature have always stood and will stand determined, in all situations, united around the Labor Party, that we “have waged a principled war against all views of bourgeois and revisionist ideology,” that we… ”etc., etc.
Vilson Kilica (professor at the Higher Institute of Figurative Arts) “… The party and the government show special care for the artistic education of the youth because the path of further development of national art depends on its ideological and aesthetic education.”
Mustafa Krantja (musician, conductor) “kuf The limits of our joy cannot be measured whenever our work and art, our successes and our problems become Party issues. How close the spiritual range must be, as well as the worldview of the art aesthetic artists, of the revisionists of every mold, to separate art from the Party, to remove from it the element of the party… ”
Konstantin Trako (composer) “Our creations must be permeated by the teachings of Marxism-Leninism, by the ideas of proletarian internationalism, to contribute to the brotherhood of peoples in the war against American imperialism, against the ideology of the bourgeois and revisionist art, for the protection of peace. and culture… ”
Llazar Siliqi (writer) “We waited for the decision at a time when more than ever we writers and artists feel connected to the Party of Marxism-Leninism.”
Nonda Bulka (writer, poet) “… To this wonderful people led by his glorious Party led by the most beloved and faithful son, Enver, artists and writers to dedicate all the talent that nature has given them”.
Also following are sculptor Kristina Hoshi, sculptor Kristaq Rama, poet Luan Qafëzezi, critic Ali Abdihoxha, who is particularly fond of the ideology of modern Yugoslav revisionism. Vehbi Bala, a writer and critic, begins with the title: “The party leads artistic creativity to the highest peaks.” And don’t ask him for a long time, because he calls you himself, and Ismail Kadare (poet) deals with his topic with the title “If art is in the service of the people, whatever form it has, it is real art”, and since at first he throws the old ones, especially Andrea Varfi, with this hymn: “When our older friends spoke here and thanked the party for its care for the arts, it is up to us younger people to thank them even more, because in this care we have felt even more concretely since the beginning of the activity ”.
Mark Gurakuqi (writer) also talks about literary criticism and concludes: “Therefore, to implement the orders and decisions of the Central Committee of our Party, we will know how to bring back our literary criticism, to make it more alive, more dynamic, more faster and bolder in reflecting our rich literary life ”.
Fatos Arapi is the only one who does not exaggerate the differences and who beats the technical issues of the art more strongly. The latest speaker is Fatmir Gjata, writer and editor-in-chief of Nëndori magazine. He addresses the topic with the title “For us, the most beautiful word, the most proud, the most expensive and the greatest is the word Party”
“Shënjza”: No, no, leave Ernest Koliqi who was sunburned and you will drink it in a glass of brandy, but what happened to the writers of Shkodra with Vincens Prendushi at the top,
In the article of the magazine “Shëjzat”, the author of the article “Simple comparative view”, with the pseudonym “Kosovari”, dwells on the words of Enver Hoxha for the well-known Albanian scientist, Eqerem Çabej. Regarding this, among other things, it says: “Let’s go back now to Enver’s speech and see how he is petting writers and artists to call him a ‘miracle worker’, but on the other hand, I deviated from what I was told.” he also threatens them (p. 10): “The Party has had great patience with the people. After 30 or 35 years, I gave my hand to an old friend of mine, Eqerem Çabej. I have not had the opportunity to do this before. Eqerem took a German culture when he was young and took his own path in life as he judged it, a different path from ours. It is a fact that he was not in line with us, but he did not commit crimes and when the Homeland was liberated, he did not take the Homeland’s mud in the hoof of his shoes, as Ernest Koliqi did, Eqeremi did not betray like him. It was very easy for us to take action against him, but the party did not do that. Çabej was spared as a scientist, but Enver does not tell the full truth that he took revenge against Çabej and killed his brother (1944) who had a court in Tropoja. Now let’s ask a question. No, no, leave Ernest Koliqi who was caught in the sun even sod and for the soul you will drink it in a glass of rakia, but what had happened to the writers of Shkodra with Vincens Prendushi at the top, and so as Dr. Çabej, nor they “did not take the mud of the homeland in the hooves of shoes”. What about the Albanian playwright Et’hem Haxhiademi, what about Musine Kokalari, what about Hamit Kokalari with other friends, who did not have the position of Koliqi, what happened? Or Kokolari disappeared because he wrote the book “Kosovo the cradle of Albanianism”. Then why Dr. Don’t you want to open your mouth to the world and thank the Party (Enver) for forgiving your life? The day will come when Enver himself will answer these questions.”/Memorie.al
