Memorie.al publishes some archival documents extracted from the Central State Archive in Tirana (fund of the former Central Committee of the ALP) belonging to the period 1963-1965, where are some letters of the famous writer Kasem Trebeshina, sent to Enver Hoxha and the Politburo, where he, after asking him to return from Gramsh to Tirana, informed the main leaders of the Party that he had never gone against the Party line of state laws and not only did not he was a revisionist as he had been wrongly accused, but in 1956, when the Tirana Party Conference took place, he sent a letter to Mehmet Shehu, asking for their punishment! Trebeshina’s other complaints and Enver Hoxha’s response, where he wrote “Let’s continue to help…”!

As we saw in other previous chapters of this book, where the writer Kasem Trebeshina, in 1963 sent a series of letters to Enver Hoxha and the Politburo, (letters that have been known for years, since they have been made public by well-known writer and scholar, Prof. Dr. Sadik Bejko in his book “False Idols”), Trebeshina repeats the same thing two years later, sending again a series of letters and complaints to Enver Hoxha and the Bureau Politics. Also, as in the letters of 1963, where he informs the senior leadership of the ALP, that; has not been and has never gone against the party line and the laws of the state, even in the letters of 1965, he repeats the same thing. Thus, in 1963, he informed the leadership envoys who went to meet him in Gramsh, that: “I was never against the party line, on the contrary, in 1956 when the Tirana Conference took place and later when The counter-revolution took place in Hungary, I maintained a good attitude and at this time I sent a letter to comrade Mehmet Shehu, with which, as a citizen of the People’s Republic of Albania, I expressed my solidarity with the attitude held by the party “. Trebeshina repeats more or less the same thing in his letters of 1965, where, among other things, he writes passages such as: “I have never been an opponent and all my dissatisfaction would disappear with a timely publication.” “All my mistakes are caused by haste and rage.” “I was locked up on Zvërnec Island, accusing me of being a revisionist, without being one.” “I am pleased to have seen my country flourish and especially with complete independence.” So: the letters have almost the same content, but only the time when they were written changes. For example, in 1963, he requested that he no longer stay in Gramsh as a teacher, but be allowed to return to his family in Tirana, or in Shijak, where he also had a friend and close friend, Mehmet Mufti, (request that was fulfilled), from Shijak, he now asks Enver Hoxha and the Politburo to return to Tirana. And after fulfilling this request, from Tirana where he lived, Trebeshina again asks Enver and the Bureau, that; does not agree to work as an accountant where he has been assigned, but begs them to work as “translators”. As quoted above, unlike the letters of 1963, where in non-fulfillment of his demands, Trebeshina threatened with a hunger strike, in the letters of 1965, he “advanced” further in his “threats”, making them with know Enver Hoxha and the Politburo, that: “Unable to prolong my days and sufferings and being very ill, unable to recover, I decided to close my life as soon as possible, raising my hand against her”. So, this time Trebeshina threatens with self-sacrifice, which he specifies that he does because of an incurable disease that…?! From the archival letters and documents that we have, such as those of 1963 and those of 1965, the answers returned to Trebeshina by the senior leadership, such as Enver Hoxha, Mehmet Shehu, etc., have almost the same spirit in their content. Enver Hoxha even wrote with his own hand: “Let us make an effort to help him, so that he gives up his folly”. Also, in another note it is stated that Mehmet Shehu has ordered that; Kasem Trebeshina should be brought to Tirana, as they actually brought him after the numerous letters he sent to the leadership. All this probably came from the fact that Trebeshina, had kinship ties with some of the senior leadership, such as, Fiqret Shehu, Bilbil Klosi, Ramiz Alia, etc., to his brother, Myzafer Trebeshina, Secretary of First I in some districts, or his nephew, investigator in the ‘Special Investigation Group’ who tried Kadri Hazbiu, Feçorr Shehu, Llambi Ziçishti, Llambi Peçini, etc., in 1982. Kasemi himself came from the War, even with plenty of merit. But, although Trebeshina had a life full of suffering and sacrifice, spending years away from his family, such as on Zvërnec Island, Tirana Prison Hospital (Psychiatric Hospital), Gramsh and Shijak, it must be said that his letters do not show not at all a spirit of dissidence, as if presented after the 90s by some of his benefactors or admirers?! On the contrary, he expresses solidarity with the communist government and the top leadership, which seems to have led to the gradual fulfillment of almost all his requirements, except for the one that required him to work as a translator. And if we compare this with other writers and poets, such as Trifon Xhagjika, Genc Leka, Vilson Blloshmi, Hafzi Nela, etc., what the leadership has done with Trebeshina, without exaggerating it at all, can be called an “insult”. However, the old axiom must be accepted: “Everyone’s suffering is enough”?! We publish the documents in question in full and without any cuts.

The first secretary of the Central K. of P.P.Sh.

Comrade Enver Hoxha

Tirana

By this letter you are informed of the following.

Unable to prolong my days and sufferings and being very ill, unable to recover I decided to end my life as soon as possible by raising my hand against it. But before I close my eyes, I want to try for the last time whether I have remained really redundant in our Albania and as such to disappear.

In addition, before closing my eyes forever I want to say this:

I have never been an opponent and all my dissatisfaction would disappear in a timely publication. I had no ideological preparation and all my mistakes were caused by haste and rage. I am glad to have seen my country flourish and especially with a complete and well-secured independence.

I have nothing more to say and, in my condition, no more can be said.

In closing, I would like to remind you once again of my constant requests for release, requests that have now remained unanswered. Among other things, I want to remind you of the fact that it is now three years old and this time is the sentence that was given to me at the beginning when I was locked up on Zvërnec Island as a revisionist, without being such.

If there is still a door to my release, please do not hesitate to open it for me to return once more to my family, to society, to help myself, my family and society with a little work…

Catching up after this last hope and waiting for death from moment to moment.

I remain respectful

Since I was looking for a job and was assigned as an accountant, it would be good for me to know if he could apply for a job as a translator. Trebeshina Letter to the Politburo

Politburo of K.Q. of P.P. SH.

T i r a n ë

I have been released from exile for 8 months and at the end of 1965 I am still unemployed and in a state of isolation. In order not to form an incorrect opinion of my condition, I consider it necessary to clarify the following:

Like all citizens of the Republic, I also need (as a family member) a job, which I also have a duty to do. I have asked for this several times, but since the only job I was given (as an accountant) had the character of a punishment, in principle I cannot do a punitive job in a vacant position and, consequently, I am forced to step aside by inform the Politburo that this action of mine is not an oppositional and passive attitude as it can be interpreted, but an attitude imposed by the created circumstances, in conditions of isolation.

Hoping that this unfriendly attitude towards me will not continue.

I remain respectful

The issue he raises: He writes that he has been released from exile for 8 months and they are still not putting him in a suitable job.

The only job offered to him was that of an accountant, but since the appointment to such a job has the character of a penalty, he did not accept it.

Note: I think the letter should be archived without response.
