1930 – Born, Abdurrahman Haxhiu known as Roza Haxhiu a former professional footballer and Albanian coach, whose name bears the stadium of Lushnja. Since childhood Roza dreamed of becoming a footballer. Haxhiu started his football career in 1947 with the youth team of Lushnja, at that time called “Tractor Lushnje”. He stayed in Lushnja until 1949 before moving for a short period to Besa. In 1951, he transferred to Partizan where he would spend a successful period, winning the championship three times in a row and the cup twice. He stayed with Partizan for most of his career, from 1951 until 1958 when he won the silver medal in Leipzig. After Partizan, he transferred and stayed at Dinamo for 1 year where he ended his career as a footballer. After his death, in 1971 he was honored with the high title “Merited Master of Sports”. The Municipality of Lushnja awarded him the title “Honorary Citizen” in 1994

 

1939 – For the first time in American television history, an American football match is broadcast live. It was on the NBC News screen that the match between the Waynesburg Yellow Jackets and the Fordham Rams would be watched in the eyes of millions of viewers. The match would end with the deep victory of the latter. This important American sporting event would revolutionize the visual media in this country.

1947 – After a long period of British rule, Pakistan becomes a member of the United Nations. Led by Liquat Ali Khan, Pakistan would declare independence from the British Empire and at the same time begin a stage of conflict with its neighbor India. The accession of Pakistan and then India to the United Nations would give this conflict an international tone. This conflict for the Kashmir region will be present even today as official Islamabad and Delhi have not yet reached an agreement.

 

1955 – Famous American actor James Dean dies at the age of 24 after a car accident. Dean, though with an incredibly short career, would soon become famous in Hollywood. He would star in the films, Sailor Beware, Trouble Along the Way, East of Eden, The Giant, etc. He would also star in a number of TV series in the 40s and 50s. He would have an accident during a car racing event in California.

 

1964 – Born in Umbria, one of the icons of world cinema Monica Belluci. Belluci during her 30-year career would stand out for her roles in films, Bram Stoker Dracula, Malena, Tears of the Sun, Specter, etc. She would be described as one of the most beautiful actresses Hollywood has ever produced. Monica Belluci would be nominated for a series of cinematic awards where she would win three of them as the best protagonist actress.

 

1965 – Indonesia launches one of the fiercest political cleansing campaigns in the country’s history. Over 600,000 people belonging mainly to the left-wing political spectrum would be arrested, tried, and executed on the orders of leader Suharto. The September 30 coup would push the top military, led by Suharto, to take the reins of running the country. He would be overthrown in the late 1990s.

 

1968 – The world’s largest civilian aircraft, the Boeing 747, is unveiled to the American public. It would be 56 m long and 60 m wide, while its tonnage was 520 tons. The diameter of this aircraft was 20 m. Its maximum speed was estimated at 1000 km per h. It could also carry up to 600 passengers. Boeing would be defined as one of the wonders of international civil aviation, in terms of its quality.

 

1993 – A magnitude 6.2 earthquake shakes the Maharashtra region of India, killing at least 10,000 people and injuring more than 30,000. Thousands more would be left homeless as a result of the extremely primitive quality of housing construction. This would be one of the most powerful earthquakes of this magnitude worldwide.
