Second part
Memorie.al / At the end of August and the beginning of September of 1983, a mysterious video that was distributed a few days before the trial of Fiqirete Shehu, prepared with her testimony during the investigative process by the people of the State Security, was distributed in all the cities of Albania from the South to the North which was heard with the center of the voice in the most important institutions, enterprises and work centers of production throughout the country. The widow of the former prime minister who committed suicide under suspicious circumstances, affirmed with her own mouth, the whole mystery of the sensational event as well as her “hostile activity” and that of the Shehu family as well. All those who had the opportunity to know him closely, were surprised by the testimony of Fiqirete Shehu, Mehmet Shehu’s wife, (former member of the Central Committee of the Party since April 1952, former director of the High School of the Party ” Vladmir Ilic Lenin” in Tirana), while the majority of the people, workers and peasants wherever they were, believed blindly, everything was said in that ghostly video, where she confessed with conviction, plots after plots, devised by her husband and others, with the sole purpose of carrying out the assassination of the main leader of the Party, Enver Hoxha!
After her testimony, the senior leadership of PPSh headed by Enver Hoxha, Ramiz Ali and the Minister of Internal Affairs, Hekuran Isain, who were the main creators of that process and the video that was served to the Albanians with the testimony of Fiqrtet Shehu, thought that all doubts about the suicide of former Prime Minister Mehmet Shehu would be closed. But soon, people would start talking under their breath and questioning her statements, thinking that she was repeating what the investigators and the Security people dictated to her. Meanwhile, the first hypotheses arose, according to which Fiqiretja was forced to do everything in order to save the rest of the family, the children.

The depositions of Skender Shehu
Skender Shehu: “The blow for the engagement with Silva Turdiu, my father Mehmeti, foresaw that it would be heavy and overwhelming. One day, he called me and told me that; in order to get out of this situation we are in (it’s about my engagement), I need to reconcile with Kadri Hazbi, the thoughts and actions we need to take further.
I will ask the Americans to create a threatening situation through incidents in our waters with war submarines, which should enter the Albanian territory. With the proposal of Kadri, who is the Minister of Defense, I have to take over the direction of the military actions and thus the work of the engagement comes to the background.
It will be an honorable state that will attract attention and for a while, the engagement will be forgotten. Therefore, said the father, you Skender, you should definitely go to Sweden, meet with the American agency and give them these requests of mine, which I think will get us out of the situation we are in”.
Skender Shehu: Dad told me to send you to Sweden to establish direct contact with the Americans. He tasked me to meet the American envoy in Sweden, who would tell me: “Greetings from Uncle Harry” and you will understand, my father told me, that that person is sent by the Americans and will you answer: “Greetings, the grandson felt his absence and missed him.”
Towards the end of October 1980, or the beginning of November of the same year, one day, being in the room where I was studying, an unknown person came to me, whom I had seen that day, in the corridors of the building. After entering my room, he asked me: “Are you Arjan Bogova?” (the name I kept going by in Sweden). “I am,” I answered. He said to me, “Greetings from Uncle Harry.” I replied, “Hello, the nephew has missed him and missed him very much. When I exchanged these slogans, the agent introduced himself as Robert Rice.
The depositions of Nesti Nases, former Minister of Foreign Affairs
Nesti Nase: I have kept Mehmet’s connections with the American agency. When I went to the UN, Mehmet Shehu gave me messages for his American friends, which I delivered to the representatives of the American agency, Jakobson and Anderson, and I received other messages from them. Mehmeti, through these messages, asked for instructions and support. I remember that when I gave Anderson Mehmet’s letter, he, without reading it, gave me an envelope for Mehmet. There I realized that they got along in other ways as well.
The depositions of Skender Shehu
Skënder Shehu: Even before I started my post-graduate studies in Sweden, in July of 1979, my father told me that the American agency wanted him. The Americans are asking me to take action to mitigate the class war, to engage you with a girl with bad makeup. The Americans tell me that you should do something like this, so that the people understand that this line should be followed and thus others should continue in the future. He told me that, for this, he had assigned Feçor Shehu to find a girl with a bad biographical composition, while in other ways, she was very good. He recommended Silva to me, since then, she was a student at the “Sami Frashëri” gymnasium and played volleyball for the “Dinamo” team.
The depositions of Fiqret Shehu
Fiqirete Shehu: Mehmeti, he had a radio that dealt with Western intelligence. The truth is that, in 1972, when he went for a medical visit to Paris, he met a person from the American agency, in the clinic where he was operated on, and received from him a radio transceiver, with a phone, with which, Mehmeti communicated from time to time with foreign agencies.
The depositions of Nesti Nases, former Minister of Foreign Affairs
Nesti Nase: “The Soviets knew that Mehmet Shehu was an early agent. When I was in Moscow, in the conversations with Popiellov, Kozlov, Poljanski, Andropov and others, I learned that they knew and had information that showed that Mehmet Shehu was put at the service of foreign intelligence, that they knew details about him his past, during the war in Spain, about the time he had spent in concentration camps in France and the time he had been for military studies in Italy.
They (the Russians) had also studied his ambitious and selfish character, they knew Mehmet Shehu’s goals and intentions against the First Secretary of the Party Central Committee. In short, they knew everything about Mehmet’s activities, and they even knew the secret way he had followed behind the party’s back. They knew all this and without hesitation, they told me the fact that Mehmeti was also their agent and had regular and secret connections with them. I was surprised by their assertions, but in the meantime, I had to remain silent.
The court decision for Fiqrete Shehu
In 1968, our Party and State condemned the military occupation of Czechoslovakia and denounced the ‘Warsaw Treaty’, as an instrument in the hands of the Soviet Union, against the freedom and independence of peoples. In this situation, Mehmet Shehu exchanged messages with the Americans. In 1970 and 1973, when the defendant Nesti Nase went to the UN, Mehmet Shehu gave messages to his American friends, which the defendant handed over to representatives of the American agency, Jakobson and Anderson, and received from them, other messages.
Through messages, he asked for instructions and support. “I gave Anderson a letter, and he, without reading it, gave me an envelope for it. I realized that they got along in other ways as well.” The truth is that, in 1972, Mehmet Shehu went for a medical visit to Paris with Fiqrete, Llambi Ziçishti, Llambi Peçin and Gani Kodra. In the hospital premises, he met the American agents and received from them a small radio, which he brought to Albania and was in contact with foreign agencies from time to time. After the hostile groups were discovered and struck, Mehmet Shehu and the other members, used their favorite tactics, covered their tracks, struck the unmasked and secretly regrouped forces to continue the hostile activity.
Having a good relationship with both superpowers, Mehmet Shehu maneuvered between them, to calm them down and always ensure their support. Regarding the above, the defendant Nesti Nase, claimed that he ordered to give them the idea that our policy was to get closer to them. When he was at the UN in 1977, he took with him two letters from Mehmet Shehu: One for Anderson and the other for the Soviet ambassador, with which he requested guarantees from them. In 1978, he commissioned the defendant Llambi Ziçishti to arrange a meeting with an American agent in Paris, a meeting that was actually carried out, according to Llambi. The purpose of the meeting was to receive instructions on how to act after the attack on the groups in the army and in the economy, according to the deposited Fiqrete.
For the above, Mehmeti has also activated the son. The latter held a series of meetings in Sweden, handed over secret data, reported and received tasks for Mehmet Shehu.
In 1980, the Americans wanted their representative to definitely come to Albania. Mehmet Shehu charged his subordinates to fulfill this request and the agent actually came as a tourist. Regarding the meeting with this agent, the defendant Llambi Ziçishti explains:
“… Mehmet called me and ordered me to meet the agent (named Pjer) on the beach of Durrës. One morning while walking, I met this person, who told me: I have something for Mr. Shehu. I immediately went to the villa where Mehmeti lived, met with Fiqrete and told her that; the foreign explorer has arrived. She pushed me to Mehmet and I gave her the package. Mehmet also gave me an envelope, I gave it to him, in the meeting I had that same night…”!
During 1981, when the situation in Kosovo became difficult for the Yugoslav revisionists, the engagement of Mehmet’s son, with a girl from a declassified family, attracted attention. The true political-ideological purpose of this engagement is fully explained by the defendants Fiqrete and Skënder Shehu. During the deposition, she said that Mehmet had been ordered to strengthen the positions in the Central Committee and to displace the First Secretary and take over the Party, peacefully. She stated that; from the meetings I had in Sweden, with CIA representatives, the Americans agreed with the Yugoslav version, but, in addition, they ordered Mehmet to announce the son’s engagement.
About this engagement, Skënder Shehu claimed in the investigation, as well as in the court: “… My father, Mehmeti, told me that the Americans asked him to mitigate the class war, by getting engaged to a girl with bad makeup. The Americans were asking for this, in order for the mass to understand that a different line should be followed and not the party line…! For this task, he told me that I tasked Feçor Shehu to find me a girl with a bad biographical composition, while in other ways she was very good…! He carried out this task, recommending Silva Turdiu”.
So, as secret agents of foreign intelligence, the defendants Fiqrete Shehu, Llambi Ziçishti, Nesti Nase and Skënder Shehu, together with associates and under the direction of Mehmet, have organized connections inside and outside the country. They have handed them political, military, economic information and other data containing state secrets. These connections have their origin during the War and until the time after liberation and are interrupted at the time of discovery and the final blow.
From the above, it appears that the defendants have betrayed the country. This conclusion was reached by relying on their depositions, the documentation, the materials that were reviewed in the court hearings in the explanations given by the convicts Koçi Xoxe, Llazar Papapostoli and Bashkim Shehu, as well as the statements of Ymer Berberi, Dhora Leka, Vajin Grabova, Galip Sojli, Irena Papa, and Isuf Keçi who listened as witnesses.
From the judgment of the case, it is fully proven that; the defendants Fiqirete Shehu, Llambi Ziçishti, Nesti Nase, Skënder Shehu, are active members of the counter-revolutionary organization created by the enemy Mehmet Shehu, which has carried out numerous actions, aiming to hit the ALP and its leader, as well as to overthrow the dictatorship of the proletariat and establish the bourgeois-revisionist order in Albania.
Regarding the special characteristics of this counter-revolutionary organization, the court concludes as follows:
In the first place, it was clearly proven that the participants in this organization are agents of foreign discoveries, early or new, put at the service of foreigners, directly or through mediation.
The main leader is the police agent Mehmet Shehu. The extensive criminal activity has a markedly complex character, it includes the interweaving of espionage activity with terrorist activity, sabotage and poisonous propaganda. Although this police agent put an end to the traitorous activity, with the act of suicide, he remains the main figure of this process. Mehmet Shehu, with this judicial process, the people put the stamp of shame on this bastard, ominous child, this classic Jewish traitor…! This organization was dictated by foreign revelations, from the American, Yugoslav and Soviet.
Lastly, the existence of this organization constitutes an important part of the great conspiracy concocted by imperialism and social-imperialism and in general by the world reaction, throughout these last 40 years, against the Albanian state and people, which it begins with the traps of Dushan Mugosha, during the National Liberation War and which was manifested recently, with the terrorist gang of Xhevdet Mustafa, sent by the titists.
Already in 1942, Mehmet Shehu received a typical social-democratic program, in which, among other things, he says that the government that will be created after the war “will allow the people to enjoy all democratic freedoms, freedom of speech, the freedom of parties with a democratic character, the freedom of strikes, etc.” After learning from Dushan Mugosha, the hostile position of Fiqerete Sanxhaktar, Mehmeti cooperates, even marries him, and since then, these two fierce and cunning enemies start their fight for the overthrow of the popular power…!
Precisely, in order to achieve this goal, the enemy Mehmet Shehu has inserted his hostile hand everywhere: In the anti-party faction of Sadik Premte in Vlora, in the backstage of Berat, in the struggle to continue the Trotskyist and traitorous line of Koçi Xoxes without Koçi, in the first matches with the Soviet revisionists, in the years 1957-1960, in the organization of the putschists in the army, in the sabotages in the economy, in art, in culture and elsewhere.
Mehemti and Fiqretja have been constantly working behind the scenes to increase the ranks of the organization with other counter-revolutionary elements…! In 1966, Mehmet Shehu openly proposed to Nesti Nasa to become a member of this traitorous organization. Regarding this moment, the defendant Nase explains: “In Beijing, Mehmet Shehu told me, now that Nesti has become a minister, we will both work together, until the end…! I understood very well that he was continuing his hostile activity against the party and wanted to put me in his service, which he actually did”.
In the same way, the defendant Fiqrete Shehu also acted with Llambi Ziçishti, already in the years ’55-’56. The latter himself asserted: “In the years ’69-’70 when I became the Minister of Health, I became a member of the counter-revolutionary organization of Mehmet Shehu and I was charged with terrorist criminal duties, by the defendant Fiqirete Shehu”.
Mehmet and Fiqirete Shehu, went so far as to introduce their children into the ranks of the organization, as was the case of Skënder Shehu, turning the family into a nursery of spies and snakes. The defendants Fiqirete Shehu, Llambi Ziçishti, Nesti Nase and Skënder Shehu, in order to achieve hostile goals, have been charged with concrete tasks and have worked actively to implement these tasks.
