Memorie.al/ publishes several archival documents extracted from the institution of the Authority for Information of Files of the former State Security, where the voluminous file (forms, investigative and judicial) of Myrteza Bajraktari, originally from Gostivar, who after graduating from high school in the city of Tetovo, in 1952, began his higher studies at the University of Skopje, in the Department of Philosophy, where in addition to teaching he was also employed as a journalist in the newspaper “Flaka e Vllaznimit” published in Skopje, from where he was quickly dismissed, after publishing an article openly opposing the migration of Albanians from Yugoslavia to Turkey and as a result, he was appointed as a teacher at the 7-year school “Shaban Zeneli” in Kumanovo.Myrteza’s arrest by the UDB in 1952, after he was part of a secret organization called the ‘Albanian National Democratic Organization’ and his sentence to seven years of political imprisonment, which he served in the prisons of Niš and Idrizovo. His escape from Yugoslavia and arrival in Albania, where after spending some time in the internment camp in Seman, Fier, he was granted the right to higher education, graduating from the University of Tirana in the Language and Literature department, but after refusing the appointment in the city of Berat, in 1971, he was arrested and sentenced to seven years of political imprisonment, on the charge of “agitation and propaganda”. Release from prison and unemployment until the collapse of the communist regime and his appointment as Consul General of Albania in Switzerland, until 1993, and then his election as Honorary Chairman of the Albanian League in the World, for the Benelux countries, where he worked on the issue of Kosovo, until he passed away on December 11, 2020. The entire complete file of Myrteza Bajraktari, with the names of State Security functionaries and officers, the pseudonyms of collaborators, “colleagues” and “fellow patriots” who followed and monitored him, the provocateurs in the investigation cells, the witnesses who appeared in court, the letters sent to Enver Hoxha and high official instances demanding his innocence, etc., etc., is published for the first time by Memorie.al

 REPORT

The source reports that on 16/VI/1975, at 11:00 near his house, he met Myrteza Bajraktar. The next day, the source went to Myrteza’s house. The source asked her if she had received any letters from Yugoslavia. Myrteza told her: “I received a letter and they informed me that she is coming to Albania as a visitor, my little sister and not the one she was before. They told me that she will come in July”.

                        “Shpendi”

                              Task:

Continue contacts with Myrteza Bajraktar where they can discuss these issues:

  1. a) If she has made efforts to get a job and what they have told her. She says that she should get a job and not insist on only being a teacher, because if you stay like this, it will catch their eye and they will ask how she is doing financially.
  2. b) You say that I heard that Abdyl Këllezi, Koco Theodhosi, and Ramadan Xhangolli were dismissed from their positions; apparently they made a serious mistake until it was done this way.

Clarification: Myrteza Bajraktari is being followed in 2/B by operative Haxhi Dashi as a possible agent of Yugoslav intelligence. B.P. has been directed to him, because the relevant sector needs to learn about the current position.

Operational measure: The information should be extracted and passed on to P.OP. Haxhi Dashi for Myrteza Bajraktari in 2/B.

The Head of the Section notes: B.P. should engage more in conversation with Myrteza Bajraktari and open up conversations of a political nature and not just general things.

REPORT

He met Idriz Lleshi on August 14, near the Executive Committee of the district and during the conversation about his son Pëllumb, he said: “Even at work and everywhere they don’t leave us alone. They call my son a revisionist, the principal of the school where I work is a jerk to me. Because I understand what his problem is, they don’t leave us alone”.

Idrizi said among other things: “I did everything for Myrteza Bajraktari. Even in prison I remembered her. I had her as a friend in the Idrizovo prison in Skopje, but these were taken as negative aspects”.

Likewise, he meets Myrteza Bajraktari and he tells her that his brother Xhemal Hyseni is in Turkey and deals with linguistics and has asked to come. But it’s better not to come, because I’m unemployed and homeless. I don’t know what they think, it’s been two years since I got out of prison and I’m unemployed. I don’t understand why I go to meet for work, and they don’t come to see me at the Ministry…!

                        “Volunteer”

Task: To approach Myrteza Bajraktari and inquire why she doesn’t get a job, even if it’s a job she wants.

Operative Measure: The information should be printed and placed in Myrteza Bajraktari’s file.

                                               Report dated 15.11.1975

The source reports that on 22.10.1975 he met Lumturi Suku near her house and during the conversation asked her how she was doing with her economic situation. Lumturi replied that; it’s worse but he gave me his word that he would be helped by that Kosovar who was in prison with Qerim (Qerim Jakupi is Lumturi’s husband), he lives in Tirana and his name is Myrteza Gostivari, when he came to Lushnje last time, he told me that a large sum of money would come to me from Yugoslavia and he would help you, since he feels indebted to you and Qerim, and he gave me 1000 lekë to me and 600 lekë to his son.

He told me this at first, that later I would help you more. I said that Lumturia would go to Tirana on the 24th to meet Myrtezai, together with Evgjeni Konon, since Evgjeni has a job of her own, I will try not to take any loot for the children.

But Lumturia did not go to Tirana on the 24th, because Nuri Gostivari told her that Myrtezai had gone to the spas of Elbasan.

“Little Apple”

    Task:

B.p., to meet Lumturia and tell her how Myrteza Bajraktari gets the money from Yugoslavia, and if he comes to Lumturia, create an opportunity to meet her.

Explanation:

  1. Lumturi Suku was registered as a contingent, because her husband Qerim Jakupi was convicted of agitation and propaganda and is serving his sentence in the Ballsh camp. He is a Kosovar.
  2. Myrteza Gostivari is a Kosovar and now, he must have been released from prison and lives in Tirana. I don’t know the address, but he lives on the pension that we give to foreign citizens who are unable to work.

Operational Measures:

The information should be printed in two copies and sent to P. Op. Shefqet Matrangasi for Lumturi Suku and one copy should be sent to the Tirana Directorate for Myrteza Gostivari. It should be clarified where Myrtezai gets this money from, whether the Yugoslav embassy in Tirana finances Lumturi, since her husband is a Kosovar and is in prison.

Date 4.6.1976

                                                             RAPORT

Sulejman Krasniqi, a resident of Tirana, told him that Gani Demiri had invited him to sign a letter-declaration, which would apparently be sent to comrade Enver, where he would be asked to help Myrteza Bajraktari.

This letter-declaration, Ganiu told him, it is good for you and Agim Gjakova to sign, since your names have weight and importance. This letter in its content should express the opinion that; Myrteza Bajraktari is an honest and patriotic person and even the friends who will sign it know him as such.

That is why he should be treated well, despite the fact that he was sentenced to 3 years in prison for agitation and propaganda. Sulejmani reacted and did not accept such a thing. Ganiu insisted on his own and told him that; despite having been in prison, his patriotism is recognized and as such he came here.

He waited until the UDB sent him on a mission here and as soon as he arrived, he showed this himself. Sulejmani replied like this:

  • I do not know Myrteza.
  • He was sentenced to three years in prison, and he did not have to be punished in vain.
  • He cannot be a double hero.
  • No honest Albanian can accept recruitment by the UDB, regardless of patriotic intentions, since it is well known that the UDB, when recruiting, knows him well and his weaknesses.

These words of Sulejman reminded him of a conversation with Sadri Tafilaj (a resident of Përmet), also regarding Gani Demir. Sadriu told him that Ganiu had encouraged him to write a letter to comrade Enver, since Ganiu and Myrtezai had written to him and in this case, the matter would take on a more serious character and it would be seen how Kosovars were treated.

Ganiu even told him to formulate this letter for him. Then Sulejman told him that it was strange how Myrtezai, there are some Kosovars who support him, and that they had created a blockade for the source, and they did not talk to him, because of Myrtezai, as if the UDB had taught them.

                    “Orges”

Tirana on 4.6.1976

Task:

You were instructed to make efforts to learn more details about this problem. Who else has knowledge and what actions are being taken to help Myrteza Bajraktari.

It was instructed that the former should not mention this problem, but to deepen it in case Sulejmani or anyone else speaks about this issue.

Note: This was done in order to protect B.p., since many Kosovars are aware that B.p. “Orges” does not go well with Myrteza Bajraktari and Sadri Tafilaj, who accuse him of being a B.p. of our organs.

Data evaluation:

We believe that the above information is valuable because it shows how the element of suspicion, among the Kosovar emigrants, seeks to protect Myrteza Bajraktari. For this reason, this information should be followed up with priority, as it has an organized character.

Operational measures:

  1. To be familiarized with this information by the Deputy Head of the Branch.
  2. To be typed and sent in a copy to the First Branch, the First Branch of the Tirana Directorate, and the Internal Affairs Branch./Memorie.al
