1896 – The masterpiece of the famous Italian composer Giacomo Puccini, La Boheme, is shown at the Royal Opera House of Turin for the first time. Directed by 28-year-old Arturo Toscanini, La Boheme would soon become one of the most frequented and popular opera repertoire worldwide. In 1946, 50 years after the premiere of the opera, Toscanini performed a commemorative performance on NBC radio.

 

1931 – Born in Butka of the Urals, the first President of post-Soviet Russia, Boris Yeltsin. Yeltsin would announce the creation of the Russian Federation in late 1990 and run the largest state in the world by 2000. During the decade of Yeltsin’s presidency, Russia would encounter difficulties in some sectors, especially in the post-transition economy. from a centralized economy to a free-market economy.

1946 – The Hungarian Parliament would change its form of government after nearly 10 centuries of Constitutional Monarchy in the Parliamentary Republic. Its first president was elected Zoltan Tildy while Prime Minister Ferenc Nagy. This political change would take place after the Soviet Red Army troops entered the country a year earlier. They soon installed a pro-Moscow communist government.

 

1953 – Floods of the North Sea flood some parts of England, Scotland, the Netherlands and Belgium. As a result of this disaster, about 2,600 people would be killed and thousands more would be left homeless and injured. The cost of damages in these countries will reach $ 640 million.

 

 

1957 – Friedrich von Paulus dies at age 66 in Dresden, East Germany. The German marshal Feld would become familiar with the unconditional capitulation of his pre-Soviet German Army in Stalingrad. The surrender of the Nazis after the end of the Battle of Stalingrad would lead to a turning point in World War II in favor of the Allies. He would be one of the best known Nazi servicemen.

 

1979 – Iran’s spiritual and religious leader Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini returns to his homeland after 15 years of political asylum in Paris. Upon his arrival in Tehran, Khomeini would direct the mass protests of the Iranian people against the autocratic Shah Reza Pahlavi regime. After the victory of the Islamic Revolution, Khomeini becomes the new leader of the Islamic Republic and leads it until his death in 1989.

 

2003 – One of the worst tragedies in the history of aerospace missions occurs in space. The space shuttle Columbia, with 7 astronauts on board, explodes after a severe technical failure, killing all crew members. This disaster would be second to that of the Challenger spacecraft which would explode similarly to Columbian 17 years ago in 1986.

 

2013 – Built in the British capital London, the tallest building in the entire territory of the European Union. Called The Shard, the 310-foot-high ladder was designed by Italian architect Renzo Piano. Its architectural style belongs to the neo-futurist school of the 21st century. The owners of the interior of this building are Stellar Property Group and the State of Qatar.
