1912– In the square in front of the National Library in Tirana, the flag of Independence was raised for the first time by the patriots Abdi Toptani, Muhamer Pazari, Ibrahim Agalliu, Shefqet Ndroqi. November 26 always remains a historic day for Tirana of nobility and generosity. As Serbian forces approached Kruja, Durres and Tirana, these wise and noble men who honored the history of this city, joined the architect of independence Ismali Qemal Vlora, in the project that would later mark the birth day of the Albanian state.

 

1922 – For the first time in the history of cinema, color film is produced. The Toll of the Sea, is a 1922 silent silent drama film directed by Chester M. Franklin, and produced by the Technicolor Motion Picture Corporation, released by Metro Pictures, and features Anna May Wong in her first leading role. The film was written by Frances Marion and directed by Chester M. Franklin, where they starred in the lead roles played by Wong and Kenneth Harlan.

1939 – The so-called “Mainila Bombing” takes place on the border between Finland and the Soviet Union. The Soviet Army orchestrates an incident which is used to justify the start of the Winter War with Finland four days later. During this, the military incident, where the Red Army, bombed the Russian village of Mainila (located near Belostrov), stated that the fire originated from Finland across the nearby border and claimed personnel losses.

 

1970 – Guadeloupe Basse-Terre receives about 40 mm of rain per minute. These are the heaviest rainfall ever recorded in the world. Basse-Terre lies at a crossroads between a tropical rainy climate and a monsoon tropical climate. While Basse-Terre has a drier stretch from January to March, the city has no dry season months. The driest month of the city (February) sees on average approximately 60 mm of rainfall.

 

1983 – In London, 6,800 gold bars worth nearly 26 26 million are stolen from the Brink’s-Mat safe at Heathrow Airport. Also known as the “Brinks-Mat Theft” in this safe, in addition to gold-plated rings, diamonds and money stolen from a warehouse were stolen. The rods were owned by Johnson Matthey Bankers Ltd, which collapsed the following year after giving large loans to fraudsters and bankruptcy firms. Two people were convicted but most of the gold was never found.

 

1990 – The famous singer, Rita Ora, is born in Prishtina. Ora, is an English singer, songwriter and actress, of Albanian origin. She rose to prominence in February 2012 when she appeared on the DJ Fresh logo, “Hot Right Now”, which reached number one, in the UK. Her first studio album, Ora, was released in August 2012, topping the UK charts. Ora was the artist with the largest number of single performances, the most successful in UK music history.

 

2007 – Mel Tolkin, 94, dies in California. Tolkin, was a television comedy writer best known as the lead author of the comedy series Right Sketches Your Show of Shows (NBC, 1950-1954) during the Golden Age of Television. There he headed a staff that included Mel Brooks, Neil Simon and Danny Simon. The Writers’ Hall inspired the film My Favorite Year, produced by Brooks, and the Broadway rendition of Laughter on the 23rd Floor, written by Neil Simon.

 

2008 – Terrorist attacks in Mumbai take place in India. Were a series of terrorist attacks that took place in November 2008, when 10 members of Lashkar-e-Taiba, a Pakistan-based Islamic terrorist organization, carried out 12 coordinated shootings and bombings that lasted four days throughout Mumbai? At least 174 people died, including 9 attackers, and more than 300 were injured. These would be some of the wildest terrorist attacks the Indian state has ever suffered.
