Memorie.al publishes a voluminous archival file issued by the institution of the Authority for Information of Former State Security Files, where there are hundreds of documents with the logo “Top secret” belonging to the former political prisoner, Xhavit Qesja, originally from the city of Kruja, whose family during the period of occupation of the country, 1939-1944, was closely associated with the Anti-Fascist Movement, being one of its main bases and made available all the wealth it had, as Xhavit was one of the first members of the Albanian Communist Party for the Kruja district, leading the Kruja-Ishëm partisan battalion and the 22nd Assault Brigade. Xhavit Qese’s political career after the end of the War, where he was appointed and served in senior positions in the Albanian Army, the apparatus of the Central Committee of the ALP, and several districts of the country, from where he was sent to study in the Soviet Union, where stayed until 1957, when he was announced to return to Albania urgently, after openly expressing his views in favor of the political line being pursued by the main Kremlin leader, Nikita Khrushchev, condemning the Stalin cult. Enver Hoxha’s conversation with Xhavit Qesen in his office in the Central Committee, where he sharply criticized him for the wrong views he had expressed during his studies in Moscow, urging him to reflect and make self-criticism, but Xhavit rejected the suggestion of the first secretary of the Albanian Labor Party, which caused him to no longer be allowed to go to the Soviet Union to complete his studies, but to be sent to work as deputy chairman of the Elbasan Executive Committee, from where a year later, he was expelled from the Party and exiled to Zvërnec Island, where the communist regime kept isolated some of the former senior party and state cadres whom he had condemned for their anti-party views. Xhavit Qesva’s long ordeal and persecution from 1957 to 1990, where he spent a full 32 years in prison and internment, being one of the few convicts in Burrell Prison who went on long hunger strikes in protest of the treatment and savage attitude that the communist regime of Enver Hoxha was holding towards him. The complete form, investigative and judicial file in charge of Xhavit Qeses, which is published for the first time by Memorie.al, which contains the documents of the former State Security that reflect the prosecution and wiretapping against him, the reports of Security collaborators with pseudonyms their correspondence with the letters he sent to the highest party and state instances, as well as the top leaders of the ALP, until 1991 when he was released from prison!

Gjovalin Luka, regarding his illness, Gjovalini, although he was taken to the hospital and the doctor came to him three times, says with revolt, when will they cure me, when will I die ?! When he was ill he made a telegram to the Minister with harsh words, but tore it up (while in fact the medicines given to him by the doctor, he did not consume them all, only _______ used them, he left the others for three months without using them until how many were broken).
Peço Fidhi is the person who talks the most, he is not beaten without speaking, and he even often makes manifestations of children in front of the guards here. When the budget was discussed in the People’s Assembly, while reading the newspaper, he asked the following questions: Is it possible to be realistic this percentage of our military budget, which he gave in our press?! Here in the newspaper it is given that the budget commission of the Assembly after making an additional 300 million ALL, this is done either for formality, or otherwise it turns out that the Council of Ministers has not studied it well. Here, Shefqet Kruja, the Chairman of this commission, insulted the deputy;
When talking about the Soviet machine for capturing the signals of the human brain (called the brain television), Peço said that some theses of philosophical materialism were overturned here, especially this invention contradicts Stalin’s formulation of the concept of thinking. Which says: “Thought is material and is expressed through speech.”
When Gjovalini returned from the hospital, he said that he had learned from the prisoners there that a villager from Mallakastra convicted of murder had prayed to Comrade Khrushchev for his release, explaining how he had been acquitted and that after the legation responded to the receipt of the letter from Khrushchev, and then Pecho said: Khrushchev is becoming like Stalin.
Reading an article in the newspaper on Yugoslav revisionism, which also referred to the anti-party and traitor group of Tuk Jakova and Bedri Spahiu, Peço said: “Now they have added the epithet traitor”!
Talking about the Tirana Conference, he told me: “At that time the situation was electrified, the Yugoslavs in Tirana made our minds stew; the same person of the Yugoslav legation, now look at him in “Dajti” and after 10 minutes, you see him meeting a person from the hospital. The head was really to blame for us, because there were signals from the Party, but there were also cases that misled us, for example, the conference held by Vandush Vinçani at the Palace of Culture “Ali Kelmendi”, where he spoke authorized by Comrade Enver , where his wife Liri Belishova was also; and from not being disturbed, another said Vandushi, and others Freedom.
On the one hand they listened to Enver’s speech with the youth cadres, on the other hand the nails of Freedom and the divergences of Gogo Nushi with ______ in the People’s Assembly and when we talked about these with the Yugoslavs, they said: Here is who hinders the improvement of relations with Yugoslavia, here is who does not want to raise the issues of relationships in the past.
It is very filthy by mouth; one day Major Gole Bashari came to visit us and joked with Peço. When the major left, he made a swear word. “I ‘said’ I know him tooth and tooth, he is from a rich family, I am taking advantage that he joined the Insurance from the very beginning; that allegedly after supporting one of his brother-in-law, to make him head of education, without deserving him (it seems to me in Tepelena), let’s be patient now, etc ” Gossip. Deleting a telegram that the captain did not send without the captain’s permission, he said: And if we are interested, we have so much (most of the friends told him not to speak in the plural).
There have been cases where he threatens the guards, even for issues of lack of water due to his own fault, he said: if the captain does not solve me, he will see me in the Branch, even in the Ministry I will make issues, and others such rugs!
He has made it a habit to say constantly: I have clarified my case with the Ministry when I was now in Tirana, I will be released, it has even set May 1, you can be released later, etc. I believed one day, I could not bear it any longer and I told him that he would be released maybe the last one, even begging God to face only the exile, that I told him five years in prison, you only avenge those who dhap here.
Xhavit Qesja, talking to Peço, stressed that in Hungary and Poland, we do not have Albanian students and that they were removed as soon as the events in Hungary took place. Speaking about the external sections of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, Xhavit said that in this way, the Bolshevik Party is aware of everything that happens in Communist Parties around the world.
Xhaviti, talking that the protocols of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, go to study all Party organizations, Pëllumb Dishnica said that this is an expression of true democracy in the Party, while Peço added: With us this cannot happen, our new party, is immature.
Xhaviti, talking about the rehabilitation of Popkov, Vozneseneski, etc., said that it had been very tragic to communicate the decision for rehabilitation, which was made to their families, in different places where we were deported, after the oil of misery had burst.
Marie Luka, Gjovalin’s wife, when she last came, told me: “Aman, I persuaded Gjovalin to write to me regularly, because I’m very worried that if his letters are delayed, I’m afraid he will be liquidated without trial.” When I told him that these are nonsense, he told me: “You do not know what thënë told me in Tirana, to force me to divorce him”!
These two three days were here Xhaferrr Vokshi’s wife, Agetina and Sabehet Fidhi, Peço’s wife, were coming very lush. As soon as they arrived, Peço’s wife told Agetina to tell us, “the issue of the car”, with Major Golen, saying how well she did and Agetina told us in a comic way, how she told the major that Xhaferri he left his car in Gjakova and when the major told him that a good wife influences her husband, she replied: “How do you know that I, like his friend, did not think like him?!
Likewise, for a letter that the major returned to him “. When Rasim told how Xhaferri got drunk and how he fell in love, Agetina added: “It was the answer to the prayer of the People’s Assembly (and other nonsense, which I am ashamed to write literally). When they were told to leave on foot, Xhaferi told his wife, do not leave, it’s a big job because it is a working day, and they cannot fire you, because you have two children. However, the next day we both set off on foot, with the tail between the saddles.

Peco Fidhi, talking about the reduction of prices with Rasim, told him that this is what we asked for, to reduce the prices, to remove the blocks and these are being done, so I understand why they keep us and when decisions are made on reducing prices and other measures to improve the conditions of the people, I am disturbed that these things we have asked for and these are being done, therefore we are not to blame.
Afterwards, Peço said that the Security suspects that I did not cooperate with the Yugoslavs, as I stayed with Raden, a functionary of the Yugoslav Legation, as well as with Rexhep Xhiha in the Hotel “Dajti”, but Jahja Hatibi and Shahin were also present. Shahin Balla, says Peço, never spoke, and I opposed Rexhepi when he praised Koci Xoxen, but the Security does not believe that I did not speak to the Yugoslavs and that I did not help them, but if I had spoken with Raden and Rexhepi, against the Party and the state, would have been told by Jahja Hatibi and Shahin Balla, so this also falls down.
Everyone spoke well about the reduction of prices, while Xhavit Qesja did not speak at all. When the families arrived on April 30, as soon as Agetina Vokshi sat down, she told us how Major Gole Bashari had responded to the car issue, when Golja had told him where he had the car to go to the men, Agetina had replied that Xhafer Vokshi, left the car in Gjakova, then Major Golja, had told him that the woman with the mind, helps the man, she answered, that: how do you know that I do not have Xhaferri’s thoughts, telling him these and the reason he had returned a letter to Major Golja, everyone laughed and you were pleased that he had given such an answer, Agetina, Major Goles, with the exception of Nuri Huta, who said that: those theaters are dull, but Agetina did not break her head at all. Then Agetina told Gjovalin and Rasim, that she was in Tirana and you have many greetings from Kole Jakova, and that Kola had instructed Agetina to tell Gjovalin to continue the novel that has started, and not to leave it halfway, like the other and Gjovalini said he would continue.
Agetina Vokshi told Rasim that Amali Dishnica had talked to Peco Fidhi’s wife, to whom, as Amaila had said, that Peço had told Sigurim that when they had a drink with Pëllumb Dishnica in Fier, they had said: Down with them leadership, and have spoken well of themselves and other anti-party elements. For this, Amalia had said, who slandered Peço, I do not go to Sabaheti as before.
For Zenepe Ashiku, Agetina told everyone that they have not found a job yet. Zenepja had given Xhaferri a canoeist and the magazine “Nëntori”.
Agetina, had asked Xhavit Qesen, did your wife leave you? Wife.
Gjovalin Luka, in the presence of Rasim, advised Agetina that he should not stay with Sabaheti, Amalia and Zenepa anymore, because they, especially Amalia, want to make him black, so look at your work. And Agetina told Gjovalin that she is right, that Sabaheti always tells me: Peço will be released, he is not like the others, and he will be released sooner than the others.
Peço Fidhi, told Rasim that when he was Peço in Vlora and Tirana, who stayed 13 days, he understood from the work he had with his friend Filat Muço, that they want to put Pëllumb Dishnica and Zihni Muço in prison, to these they were worried, but I saw Zihni’s article he had written about the summer trade, so I believe they will not take measures to imprison him. For himself, says Peço that he did not get what the Security thought. Memorie.al
