1918 – The declaration of independence of Finland is recognized by Russia, Sweden, Germany and France. This declaration declared Finland an independent nation, ending its autonomy within Russia as the Grand Duchy of Finland, referring to a bill simultaneously sent to Parliament. The declaration of independence was only part of the long process that led to Finland’s independence. The declaration is celebrated as Finland’s Independence Day. Its capital was declared Helsinki.

 

1924 – Kadri Roshi was born in Ballsh, Mallakastra, studying in Prague in 1951. He started his career as an actor at the People’s Theater at the age of 21, being one of the creators of this theater. From that time until today he counts about 180 roles on stage and cinematography, which constitute a great artistic life, where the difficulties of a life of orphan, apprentice, cinema goalkeeper and even the original actor with the portrait of a tribal man are intertwined. . The actors of his generation Drita Pelingu, Violeta Manushi, Tinka Kurti, Reshat Arbana, Marika Kallamata, etc. were always by his side. It is considered by many as the legend of the Albanian scene and screen. He has been a brilliant actor and with an innate talent. In 1995 he was honored with the Career Award at the Artistic Film Festival, in 1997 with the Grand Prize of Honor. He has been the “Honor of the Nation” since 1999. Kadri Roshi’s name is a colossus for Albanian film and theater, where he left outstanding figures that will never be forgotten.

1944 – During World War II, Operation Carpetbagger begins, involving the disposal of weapons and supplies to resistance fighters in Europe by Allied aircraft. In this military operation, the US OSS, and the British SOE dropped agents, and combat supplies for the resistance forces of France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Denmark, and Norway. The same thing would happen later in the Balkan countries, where much of the supplies would be dumped into Albania.

 

1948 – Burma gains its independence from the United Kingdom by becoming an independent republic. Also called Burma’s Union, its government elected Sao Shve Thaik as its first President and U Nu as its first Prime Minister. The capital of Burma was Rangoon. But since independence, Burma, or as Burma is known, has faced some coups, and dictatorial military junta. Today, this country is going through a difficult economic and social situation.

 

1956 – Formed by Konstantinos Karamanlis, party of the Greek National Radical Union. This political force was a conservative, right-wing party that also had some prominent members of the center, such as Panagiotis Kanellopoulos, Konstantinos Tsatsos, president of the Greek Republic from 1975 to 1980, and Evangelos Averoff, Minister of the Foreign Affairs in the governments of Karamanlis from 1955 to 1963, and leader of Nea Democracy from 1981 to 1985.

 

1960 – Albert Camus, aged 46, dies in Villeblevin. Camus, was a Franco-Algerian philosopher, author and journalist. He won the Nobel Prize in Literature at the age of 44 in 1957, and is named the second recipient of this award, the youngest in history. Philosophically, Camus’s views contributed to the rise of philosophy known as absurdism. He is also considered to be an existentialist, despite having vehemently rejected the term throughout his life.

 

1990 – Born in Greifswald, Tony Kroos. Kroos, is a professional German footballer who plays for Spanish club Real Madrid and the German national team. Kroos plays mainly as a central midfielder, but is also used as a deep defender or creator. He is known for his vision, creativity, and is widely regarded as one of the best midfielders in the world.

 

 

2010 – Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest current building, officially opens in Dubai. With a total height of 829.8 m and a roof height (not including the antenna) of 828 m, the Burj Khalifa has been the tallest structure and building in the world since its inception in 2009. Construction of the Burj Khalifa began in 2004, with the exterior was completed five years later in 2009. The primary structure is reinforced concrete. The building opened in 2010 as part of a new development called Downtown Dubai.
