Memorie.al exclusively publishes some rare photos of the former Chairman of the Executive Committee of Tirana, Ndue Marashi and his family. In two of the photos, which belong to 1974, Ndue Marashi (in the position of Chairman of the Executive Committee of Tirana, where he served from 1970 to 1975), appears next to Enver Hoxha and the senior communist leadership of the time, (Bureau Politike), discussing the model of the center of Tirana.
While in other photos that are published for the first time, Ndue Marashi is with his wife Francesca and their two sons, Gjovalini and Vlash, during a family lunch held at their villa in Tirana. Also, clearly visible is the presence of the former senior exponent of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Mark Dodani, who, for a long time has been one of the closest friends of this family.
According to the testimonies of his family, the first signs of the attack on Ndue Marashi, were noticed at the official banquet held at the hotel “Dajti”, in honor of the Prince of Cambodia, Samde Norodom Sihanouk, where Prime Minister Mehmet Shehu, while knocking glasses with those present, refused to do the same with Nduen, to whom he said: “We will deal with you …”!
Hours later, under highly suspicious circumstances, his wife, Francesca, was to be hit in the street, with strong tools on her head, by some unidentified persons. According to the testimony of his son, the law enforcement agencies would not take any measures to uncover this serious incident!
Ndue Marashi, would have officially reported suicide on December 17, 1975, but in fact, his “accidental” death had occurred 24 hours earlier on December 16! His son, Gjovalin Marashi, told Memorie.al that his younger brother Vlashi had seen two unknown civilians who had run out of the yard of their residence (a two-storey villa located on Haxhi Street Sina ”(after the Red School) and who had left on a motorcycle, in an unknown direction …?!
They were signaled by an unidentified woman, who according to the testimony, had been standing in front of the neighborhood where the Marashi family lived. Numerous police forces headed by the Director and Deputy Director of the Directorate of Internal Affairs of Tirana, respectively Nusret Dautaj and Zef Loka, would arrive at the scene immediately. The authorities of the time, would “immediately close” the issue of Ndues’ “suicide”, considering it “accidental”!
The next day, the communist regime issued a statement “for internal use”, saying that the former Chairman of the Tirana Executive Committee, Ndue Marashi, killed himself as an “enemy of the party and the people” because he had been linked to the economic sabotage that became the district of Tirana in Baldushk and Shëngjergj. After that, their family would be interned in Tapiza of Kruja, from where they would return to Tirana only after 1990.
Ironically, six years later, around the same date, the iron man of the communist regime, who had initiated the attacks on him, Prime Minister Mehmet Shehu, would “commit suicide in accidental circumstances”, on the premises of his villa, dawned December 18, 1981! /Memorie.al
