1899 – Fiat is founded by Giovanni Agnelli in Turin, Italy. Fiat Automobile is the largest automobile manufacturer in Italy. Throughout its history, it remained the largest automobile manufacturer in Europe and the third largest in the world, after General Motors and Ford. Fiat has received many international awards, including nine European awards
1920 – Born in Vladivostok to Yul Brynner. Brynner, was a Russian-American actor, singer and director, considered one of the first stars of Russian-American film. He became widely known for his portrayal of King Mongkut in The King and I, for which he won two Tony Awards, and later won an Academy Award for film adaptation.
1934 – Engelbert Zaschka of Germany flies his large manpower plane. This Zaschka human plane, was about 20 meters, and at Berlin Tempelhof Airport it flew, without assisted takeoff. This would be one of the most famous inventions of this flight engineering. He was also called “German Wright”.
1947 – Exodus 1947 goes to Palestine from France. Exodus 1947 was a ship transporting 4,500 Jewish immigrants from France to British Forced Palestine. Most were Holocaust survivors who did not have legal immigration certificates for Palestine. Some of them were killed during the clashes.
1957 – Prince Karim Husseini Aga Khan IV inherits the office of Imamate as the 49th Imam of Shia Imam Ismaili worldwide, following the death of Sir Sultan Mahomed Shah Aga Khan III. Aga Khan’s net worth is estimated at $ 13 billion. Forbes describes Aga Khan as one of the fifteen richest kings in the world.
1962 – During the Apollo Project, at a press conference, NASA announces the lunar orbit as a means to land astronauts on the Moon, and return them to Earth. Lunar orbit ordering is a key concept for efficiently landing people on the Moon and returning them to Earth. It was used for Apollo missions in the 1960s and 1970s.
1978 – The Los Alfaques disaster strikes when a truck carrying liquefied petroleum gas crashes and explodes at a coastal campsite in Tarragona, Spain, killing 216 tourists. The tanker truck that crashed was loaded with 23 tons of very dangerous liquid propylene. Most of the tourists were foreigners.
2015 – Satoru Iwata dies at the age of 55. Iwata, was a Japanese businessman, video game programmer and designer. He was the fourth president and CEO of Nintendo. Iwata, is widely regarded as a major contributor to expanding the appeal of video games to a wider audience by focusing on fun games.
