1920 – Born in the village of Gllavicica (Shengjon-Kokaj) near Peja, Mark Krasniqi, professor, academic, politician and Albanian writer from 1961-1981 he was a professor at the University of Pristina, when the anti-Albanian Serbo-Communist government expelled him from the teaching process. He has been several times vice dean and dean of the Faculty of Law and Economics. He was vice-president and president of the Academy of Sciences and Arts of Kosovo, first president of the Kosovo Writers’ Association (1970) and chairman of the Albanian Christian Democratic Party of Kosovo (1993). He is a member of the Academy of Sciences and Arts of Kosovo and the Academy of Sciences of Albania. He has published more than 20 scientific books, literary, journalistic and textbooks and has translated several novels and poetry collections from Serbian and Slovenian into Albanian. Mark Krasniqi, among others, is the author of the collection of poems for children “Mail order”. the author writes poetry for children and adults, as well as deals with scientific studies in the fields of geography and ethnography.
1921 – Portuguese Prime Minister Antonio Granjo is assassinated along with several other politicians in what will be called the “Bloody Night”. 1937 – British physicist Ernest Rutherford dies in Cambridge at the age of 66. Rutherford, would become known worldwide in 1908, for winning the Nobel Prize in Physics. His contribution in this field was that he discovered the inclusion of chemical elements in radioactive substances. For all his discoveries and inventions, Rutherford would be decorated by the British government, being considered one of the greatest scientists of the twentieth century. A number of schools and colleges in Britain and beyond bear his name today.
1950 – During the Korean War, United Nations troops reap significant victory over Pyongyang. After a series of counterattacks, US and other allied forces under the UN flag break North Korean troops inside their border. 1984 – Polish Catholic priest Jerzy Popieluzsko is assassinated by three agents of the Sluzba Bezpieczenstwa (Polish intelligence service). Popieluzsko’s assassination took place after the latter was widely engaged in the anti-communist Solidarnost movement. He was tortured to death by three Polish Security agents and his body dumped in the frozen waters of the Wistula River, to be found a few days later. His funeral was attended by thousands of people, who turned it into a large demonstration against the regime. All three agents were arrested and convicted of the crime, while Popieluzsko was declared a saint and a martyr of the Polish Catholic Church.
2000 – Mahir Domi dies, Albanian linguist, academic was an Albanian philologist, pedagogue and academic. He started his secondary education at the Normal High School in Elbasan and continued and completed it at the National High School of Korça in 1937. He attended higher studies in classical philology and graduated from the University of Grenoble in France in 1941. In the same year he started working as a teacher. after as director in the Normal of Elbasan. Prof. M. Domi has given an outstanding contribution in the field of education as director of the Normal School of Elbasan and as a director and lecturer at the Faculty of History and Philology of the University of Tirana. He worked diligently and gave his valuable assistance as a teacher and lecturer in drafting new plans and programs of our school as well as with the language and literature books that he drafted for the needs of different pre-university and university levels of the school. In addition to his extensive work in the field of teaching, prof. M. Domi made an outstanding contribution in many fields of albanological knowledge in all Albanian philological and literary sciences. He is honored and appreciated by scholars of Balkanology and Indo-European. In many international and national congresses and conferences where he has participated, he has given his weighty speech on the problems of Albanian, representing Albanian science with dignity. In addition to his extensive scientific work, he has left the memory of a tireless erudite scientist, with a wide horizon, an honest and noble man, who devoted a part of his life, with the kindness and generosity that characterized him. preparing the new generation.
