From Bedri Choku

Memorie.al / Aqif Selimi, from Elbasan, former adjutant and close associate of Mustafa Gjinishi, a few years ago, when he was 83 years old, was invited to a television program and told that, in Operation Winter, after the defeat of the forces partisans from the Germans, the General Staff of the National Liberation Army, gave orders for all partisans of the detachments to return to their homes, (with permission), to return at an unspecified time, only when it saw fit The General Staff, in hiding.

“I,” said Aqif Selimi, “was all the time behind Mustafa Gjinishi, who communicated with all the partisan military forces against the invaders.” With the ballistas, the birders, with the English advisers and mainly with the General Staff of the National Liberation. He (Mustafai) was not a communist by conviction, but he was a nationalist patriot and fought for the liberation of the country from the occupiers.

At the Permet Congress (on May 24, 1944), he did what, to this day, none of the participants has dared to tell. Due to Mustafa’s intervention, during the Congress, the meeting was interrupted for almost a quarter of an hour. The interruption occurred while Omer Nishani was reading the three-point resolution, which stated that:

Albania is declared a Republic.

The return of King Zog to Albania is prohibited.

Albania recognizes the borders of 1939…!

Just when the third point was being read, Mustafa Gjinishi called out from the middle of the hall: “Stop!… Stop”! Everything in the hall went numb…! Gjinishi points to Enver Hoxha, saying:

– “What about you, who gave you the right to sell Albania, you traitor…?! Who gives it the right to accept its halved limits, eh?!

Meanwhile, Mehmet Shehu intervenes against Mustafa, accusing him of being a “chauvinist”! Even Mehmet quickly pulls out his cobra. They both knew each other and were brave…!

– “You, criminal, shut up!” Mustafa tells him…! Because you are sentenced to death, for killing 80 innocent musketeers…! But what should I do to them…”?! And meanwhile it is directed by Mugosha, Miladin Popovici and Myslim Peza…! Everyone intervenes, to soften the blood…!

Meanwhile, Mustafai waited for the other delegates to support him, especially Koço Tashko and Sejfulla Malëshova. He had many friends. But they didn’t feel…! Mustafa Gjinishi left the Congress session angry, almost with everyone…!

The conference approved the announced decisions, according to the interest of the Serbs who had organized it…! Mustafai waited until the conference was over and poured himself into Myslim Peza, in whom he had great support and trust:

– “Did you convince me now… that they are all against Albania… that they are realizing the Serbian dream to extort Kosovo”?! But Baba did not feel at all!

“From the notes in Mustafa’s block, I read with my own eyes, – Aqif Selimi said in that show – that Myslim Peza was in agreement with Mustafa Gjinishi, but he never supported the ardent patriot, on the issue of Albanianism.

Even when, after a few days, Mustafa was informed that he was being transferred to the North, allegedly with a special service, he warned Myslim Peza, letting him know that his transfer to the North was being done for dark purposes…!

– “If he finds anything against you, – said Muslimi, – I will bring the blood to the horse’s knee…! Everyone should know this well, even Enveri with the Serbs he has in the Headquarters…”!

“Nevertheless, Mustafa respected the decision of the War Headquarters, he left for the North. As always, I was not separated from him for a single second, – the 83-year-old Selimi said in that show. – I also had the order from Myslim Peza, to protect Mustafana. Because, he said: ‘We have it like scarce water, among the Albanians who fight for our lands’…!

We were located in Dibër, for the organization of partisan forces; ‘that they would march for the liberation of Kosovo…’! Suddenly, Mustafana is called to participate in the committee meeting, with the top cadres of the squads and brigades. It was September 20, 1944. We just arrived in Maqellare.

Among the assembled cadres, there was also Hysni Kapo, who graciously invited Mustafa to give his opinion regarding the discussion that was taking place about Tito’s personality and the victory of the Slavic peoples against the Nazis…!

Mustafa, who had listened to the discussants once, with a red flame on his face, said: – “Why don’t you feel sorry for the Albanian people, who have been fighting for five years against the occupiers, for the liberation and unification of the country, while you open your stomach more, for the victory of Pan-Slavism in the world…’?!

Everyone lowered their heads, not daring to answer anyone…! After a while there, very close to us, Enver Hoxha and Mehmet Shehu passed by as if in a parade, they were probably going to participate in the organization of the Fourth Assault Brigade. Others started after them…!

I remember like now that, immediately after Mustafa, Ndreko Rino and Liri Gega left. He before, they after. Before entering the forest well, a burst of machine gun was heard and, right after that burst, a 17-year-old partisan, coming out of the forest, fired the machine gun into the air, to give the alarm.

First, he addressed Ndreko Rino and Liri Gega, who were allegedly also coming out of the forest, telling them that; Mustafa was killed…! I also ran as soon as I heard the screams, but it was too late. Mustafa was sent to the ground lifeless. An entire magazine of cartridges was emptied into his body.

I heard it when Liri Gega, all indifference and irony, asked the partisan boy: – ‘Hey, boy, did you see right, Mustafa died, or… he died completely, right’? And he continued on his way calmly – calmly to where he started, together with Ndreko Rino”. Memorie.al
