Memorie.al / The name of the most prominent Albanian writer of all time, Ismail Kadare, was misused for the last time by linking it to the story of the demolition of the National Theater building. According to those who asked him, he did not speak out on the issue, justifying himself with his age and health. In fact, those who have met him recently know that both his age and health are on an equal level, or even worse than the answer given.
However, the comments about not speaking out exceeded the concern for age, or even respect for the work, going back to old accusations, according to which he, that is, Kadare, was a servant of communism and other similar things.
But those who have known the communist system well have also marveled at the courage of this writer, since in most of his best work there is talk of another reality: only Ismail Kadare dared to break out of the strict rut of socialist realism. There are examples of this – not just chapters – but entire novels, such as “The Servant of the Palace of Dreams”, “The Pyramid”, etc.
Likewise, the State Security and, from time to time, Enver Hoxha himself, have clashed strongly with Ismail Kadare, as was the case with the verses “The Red Pashallarët”. Of course, Ismail Kadare also had the protection of the regime, but here the question can also be answered: Too famous to bite. Over time, a considerable number of secret documents have also confirmed a persecuted and denounced Ismail Kadare.
The exclusive document published once again confirms his pursuit and surveillance by the State Security.
The document belonging to the First Directorate of State Security is dated January 12, 1979 and consists of a list of writers, publicists and others whose materials would be destroyed that constituted secret information, certainly data on activities outside the norms of the time.
At the head of the document it is written that these materials belong to the A.K.P., that is, members and candidates of the Party, among whom, on the second page, the penultimate line, Ismail Kadare is included. According to the State Security Platform, members of the Party, since the years 1948-1949, could not become the object of surveillance and prosecution by the State Security, since the Party was considered above the political police.
For these reasons, the State Security seems to have decided to destroy some data on Ismail Kadare, while at the top of the first page, it is written that some similar documents will continue to be preserved.
