Agenda: Analysis of the serious mistake made by the member of the Politburo, Mehmet Shehu, regarding the engagement of a boy with a girl with a very bad political composition.
This meeting is attended by all members of the Politburo, with the exception of Comrade Hekuran Isai, who did not come because his mother died last night.
COMRADE LENKA ÇUKO: When we were admitted to the Party, we swore that we would work, fight and consistently defend its line, and that we would not put anything on its principles and norms. I would say that Comrade Mehmet should not have corrected his engagement when he recommended it to Comrade Enver, because we should all work to make his work easier and not burden Comrade Enver with such things.
Even when the news broke that Comrade Mehmet’s son was engaged to Ismail Turdiu’s granddaughter, who lives in Lushnje, a very worried communist came to me and said: What happened, that Comrade Mehmet’s son is engaged to Ismail Turdi’s granddaughter? As much as they could know who Ismail Turdiu was, I did not know him, but, now, seeing the self-criticism of comrade Mehmet, I see who Ismaili or Qazim Turdiu are.

So they also talk about appearance. So I think that comrade Mehmet should not go through this so easily and say that he does not know how they are, that I do not look after my children. Yes, we can tell him that the son of comrade Mehmet went out barefoot outside the ‘Block’ when he was on the beach in Divjaka, even without hats at all, without letting his bride change and walk her children, son or daughter, with a speedboat. Even once we were there with comrade Kadri and he said: without coming here you, who ordered you to roam me here, and take people on foot?
I do not have much contact with Comrade Mehmet, but he suppresses you, does not let you talk, and the people below say: It is easier for us to come and talk to Comrade Enver here, to ask him problems, to listen to us and to be honest, I have learned tremendously from other comrades as well, but especially from Comrade Enver, from the treatment and from criticism that makes us.
The creation of special conditions for his children must be seen. We also have children, but we hear that they say a lot that Comrade Mehmet’s children dress like this and dress like that, that they are the spreaders of fashion, that they tell us: why Comrade Mehmet’s son’s bride dresses like this and we should not dress like her , etc. All this means that comrade Mehmet, together with comrade Fiqret, say that for us there is another fashion, for the Party and for the people there is another.
I think that Mrs. Fiqret is also responsible and I do not know what position the party organization where she belongs is, but this friend should give an account and even give well, because the car that the boy went to Greece for two weeks, she made it available to him, as we have heard. Where are you, why are comrade Mehmet’s children, people saying, going out with the whole bride? Why is the bride of comrade Mehmet’s son, without finishing high school, allowed to go to University, in the second year without doing the first year? Friends watch, people talk. Why, comrade Mehmet does not know these? I do not know these friends Fiqret? Therefore, I think that my friend Fiqret should also give an account and even give well.
I think that Feçor Shehu is also responsible. He is entrusted with State Security and is a member of the Central Committee. Although he went and gave the information to Comrade Mehmet and told him that he did not agree much, he should have informed the Central Committee and told him that I was powerless to influence Comrade Mehmet, so you, Comrade, should judge this. Not to be removed as if I know nothing at all. He has been entrusted with State Security. Who gets these people out? Why is our state left to represent the colors of Albanian sports, the daughter of Qazim Turdi? What is this? Who gives visas to get out of these people?
But here please, who gave the visa to the one who went abroad? Who knows, she may even be an agent there, the enemy may have compromised her. Thus, all of them now appear to us as innocent and comrade Mehmet takes under protection his wife Fiqret, also comrade Feçor, saying it is my fault. When it came time, we were expelled from the Communist Party, being told that your wife was married to a declassed man, your ex-father-in-law was a ballist and you were not honest, so we do not accept you into the Party, etc. etc.
What about these? Should they be held accountable or should they go that easy? I think that even so casually, I do not know, but comrade Kadri said that he has made self-criticism. What self-criticism has he made, I think they should be discussed by the Plenum of the Central Committee and not he has made self-criticism, why does he issue a firm to bring people with companies abroad, to represent our sport? Did not our state remain to be represented in our sport by these? We must always defend the Party line…
COMRADE KADRI HAZBIU: I did not say anything about Feçor.
COMRADE LENKA ÇUKO: No, no. You said that Feçori did not know he did it; you are forgiving me that I did not hear him wrong, but nevertheless I say that he must do and he must give an account. That now, Comrade Enver, has another opinion, it is enough to be an athlete and an artist and go abroad without difficulty, without seeing the main issues, for the political side, no one asks. I make self-criticism for myself, but I have not had many contacts with comrade Mehmet, so the best self-criticism should be made by comrades Adil, Pali and others.
Friends say here that he does not let you. Well, he will not let you, but Comrade Enver in the Politburo has said several times that, dear friends, come and inform me. We have made self-criticism before Comrade Enver that we should inform him about problems and Comrade Enver is also interested in simple problems of agriculture, industry, trade, but also for these problems, which have to do with the Party line? COMRADE MUHO ASLLANI: Like all other comrades, I have carefully studied the written self-criticism of comrade Mehmet, in which he tries to analyze the political error and to find out the reasons that led him to this error. Since Skënderi has not returned so far, and I had the impression that he would have returned, and would have been in Albania, now I say that he should return immediately and not only that, but also be careful not to do any other nonsense in Sweden, or any other country, since I have learned to roam from one country to another.
This is a serious mistake also for the fact that you sat at a table with Qazim Turdiu, and what is worse, in the self-criticism you have made in writing, you raise the figure of this one, noting the titles and merits his. Of course, we know that he is a professor, but he is not a member of the party and there was no need to praise him so much, he is like that and he is like that. You, comrade Mehmet, have to think long and hard with partisanship, why did this girl ask to join your family, to be engaged to your son as prime minister?
You, Comrade Mehmet, as far as I know, especially during these two years here in joint work; you are characterized by kidnapping in decision making. Often times you have made mistakes and made self-criticism and again say that I will try to correct myself. Of course, there have been some cases when even in the meetings of the Government, as it turned out here, you cut the word to the comrades who are discussing, so much so that in one meeting, I remember, comrade Prokop said: that as long as you call us, you should also listen to the thoughts to the end, otherwise do not call us at all, or in another case, when you spoke to Comrade Manush, what are these nonsense you have done, giving orientation and ordering to study the problems of the staff, Comrade Manush, for my opinion, straightforwardly, told you that: I implement the decisions of the 7th Party Congress, therefore you, comrade Mehmet, he said, should be more careful and did not prolong it any longer.
Often you, comrade Mehmet, hurry in the orders you give, you hurry without judging well and carefully the problems that arise. Of course later you judged that you did not act well for the opinion you gave, but here comrade Mehmet Shehu gives the message, no one else gives, a communist or a simple cadre and the masses, the Party committees, the executive committees implement it immediately. However, there are some work processes and some sectors that are no longer repaired by the action taken.
Comrade Mehmet, I believe you remember, in 1980, leaving the national road from Kavaja, on the left was a block of vineyards against phylloxera. You have ordered that this vineyard be uprooted within 24 hours. The first secretary of the district, Mihallaq Ziçishti, together with the chairman of the Executive Committee, gave orders and the vineyard was uprooted. You have studied this issue, you are also an agronomist, life itself has introduced you, as it were, to the problems of agriculture, as well as to other problems, but you cannot know the technological processes of the vine, as i know agronomy, or technological processes of wheat culture, as the specialist knows.
You can know many things, of course above all you know the Party line, the teachings of Comrade Enver, in the first place, but in the fine specialties, you cannot enter, just as you can enter another who has also studied for these issues. Comrade Adil, charged me to see the vineyard and the fruit nursery there, but the vineyard was over, while the fruit nursery, with their initiative and being afraid, to put it bluntly, for the authority of comrade Mehmet…!
COMRADE ENVER HOXHA: Was there a vineyard near the bridge here in Kavaja?
