1903 – The Atletico Madrid football club is founded in Spain. This club is considered one of the most successful in Spain after the two giants of Spanish football, due to its dominance for a certain period. In terms of La Liga titles, Atletico Madrid is ranked as the third most successful club in Spanish football after Real Madrid and Barcelona.
1933 – The Gestapo, the official force of Nazi Germany’s secret police, is founded. Beginning on April 20, 1934, it passed into the administration of Schutzstaffel (SS) national leader Heinrich Himmler, who in 1936 was appointed German Police Chief by Hitler. During World War II, the Gestapo played a painful role in the Nazi plan to exterminate Europe’s Jews and its political opponents.
1937 – During the Spanish Civil War, the Basque town of Guernica in Spain is heavily bombed by the German war. During this bombing, more than 500 innocent people, residents of this city, were killed. The bombing was the subject of an anti-war painting by Guernica, created by Pablo Picasso, which was housed inside the United Nations in New York.
1940 – Carl Bosch dies at the age of 65. Bosch was a German chemist and engineer and Nobel laureate in Chemistry. He was a pioneer in the field of high-pressure industrial chemistry and founder of IG Farben, at a time when his company was the largest of its kind in the world. Bosch won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1931, and in 1937, he won the Goethe Prize.
1962 – NASA’s Ranger 4 space capsule crashes on the moon. A computer error on board caused the failure of the placement of solar panels and navigation systems. As a result, the capsule crashed on the far side of the moon without returning any scientific data. It was the first space capsule in the United States to reach another celestial body in 64 hours.
1963 – Born in Beijing, Jet Li. Li, is one of the most famous Chinese-American martial arts actors. Some of his films are, Romeo Must Die, Kiss of the Dragon, Unleashed, The One, War, The Forbidden Kingdom, all three films The Expendables, and The Mummy, Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. Jet Li has been nominated for 12 international awards, winning four of them.
1970 – The Convention establishing the World Intellectual Property Organization enters into force. The Convention was signed in Stockholm, Sweden, on 14 July 1967 and entered into force on 26 April 1970. The WIPO Convention (officially the Convention on the Establishment of the World Intellectual Property Organization) is a multilateral treaty established by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). . This convention was signed by 191 states.
1986 – A serious accident occurs at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant in the Soviet Union (now Ukraine), creating the world’s largest nuclear disaster. The accident began during a security test at an RBMK nuclear reactor. During this explosion, 42 people died, the number of which then reached 100, as a result of high radiation. The great radioactive cloud spread almost all over Europe.
