1890 – Famous Dutch painter Vincent van Gogh shoots himself and dies two days later from his wounds. He suffered from psychotic episodes and stupidity and although worried about his mental stamina, he often neglected his physical health, did not eat properly, spent a lot of time working, and drank heavily.
1921 – Researchers at the University of Toronto, led by biochemist Frederick Banting, prove that hormonal insulin regulates blood sugar. Insulin, is a peptide hormone produced by the beta cells of the pancreatic islets, which is considered to be the body’s main anabolic hormone. Low insulin levels cause problems.
1955 – The Austrian State Treaty restores Austrian sovereignty. The Treaty of the Austrian State was signed on 15 May 1955 in Vienna, at the Schloss Belvedere between the occupying Allied powers (France, the United Kingdom, the United States and the Soviet Union) and the Austrian government. The neighboring Federal People’s Republic of Yugoslavia joined the treaty.
1970 – Antonio de Oliveira Salazar dies at the age of 81. Salazar, was a Portuguese statesman who served as Prime Minister of Portugal from 1932 to 1968. He was in charge of the Estado Novo (“New State”), the authoritarian corporate government that ruled Portugal until 1974. His regime was overthrown by the Revolution. and 25 April.
1983 – Born in Prishtina, Lorik Cana. Cana is a former Albanian professional footballer. He made his international debut in June 2003, at the age of 19. Cana is the most striped Albanian captain of all time with 92 such appearances, when he was named captain in 2011.
1990 – The Supreme Soviet of the Soviet Republic of Belarus declares Belarus independence from the Soviet Union. Until 1996 this day was always celebrated as the Independence Day of Belarus. But after a popular referendum held the same year, the independence celebration was moved to June 3rd.
2016 – US presidential candidate Donald Trump publicly calls on Russia to find and release emails from Democratic opponent Hillary Clinton. During a Special Council investigation it later claimed that Russian operatives began hacking into servers in the National Democratic Committee on the same day.
