I will write more in the second part of this opinion about the chief Egyptian terrorist, the infamous Ajman, but let’s do a retrospective, and go back 60 years; when at dawn on July 1, 1962, in Ayalon Prison in Ramallah, after the trial of the death penalty, one of the greatest Nazi criminals, of the Holocaust or the Final Solution of the Extermination of the Jews, Otto Adolf, was hanged on the rope by Israel Eichmann! Born in Solingen (the city of special tool or furniture steel in Germany), on March 19, 1906, he began his studies in Linz, Austria, (which Hitler intended to make the fifth capital of the Third Reich), in the same school where Adolf Alois Hitler himself had studied, BRG Fadingerstrasse, where they were educated and indoctrinated with anti-Semitism. He left school without graduating and devoted himself to mechanics, showing no interest in politics, until one day, by chance, he met Ernst Kaltenbrünner of the SS at a NSDAP rally and accepted the offer to join their Nazi Party. ! He first studied the book of the founder of the Zionist movement, Theodor Herzl, “The Jewish State”, which convinced him to get to work on exterminating the Jews as a people and as a nation and not allowing the creation of a Jewish state! Indeed, the illusion that such master criminals can even repent is more than vain, however their capture, trial, sentence and execution, at least, is a tribute to the relatives of the millions of victims they cruelly caused!
Now let’s go back to the other main criminal, Muhammad Rabí Ayman al Zawaihiri. He was born into a family of Egyptian intellectuals and politicians, full of lawyers, writers and doctors from Buhayra, early settled in Maadi, a district of Cairo. His uncle, Abd’-al Rahman Azzam Pasha, was the first Secretary General of the Arab League (with 22 member states), while his father, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Shafii al Zawahiri, the most famous dermatologist in Egypt and sister, Heba, a prominent oncologist.
His maternal grandfather, Abd al Wahhab Azzam, was one of the greatest Arab writers in the monarchical Egypt of the 10th and last King of the Albanian Dynasty, Farouk, founded by Mehmet Ali Pasha, the dynasty that ruled the country for 150 years. , wiping away the dust of time and the Sahara desert in Egypt, which led to the development and modernization of this state with a glorious pharaonic history, which was being forgotten! Even Ajman himself was a doctor, writer and poet, who spoke excellent English and French!
From the age of 14, he became a follower of Sayyid Qutb Ibrahim Hysain al Shad’hili, (famous Islamic ideologue), executed by hanging along with six others, in 1966 by Nasser’s regime, on the charge of Coup! Ajman, became part of a group of Muslim Brothers, where the indoctrination (or more precisely in Albanian trushplarja), quickly turned him into a secret anarcho-terrorist, since he was studying at the famous “Al Azhar” University in Cairo!
After becoming part of the extreme wing of the “Brotherhood”, the Islamic Jihad, he was among the shadowy creators and organizers of the assassination of the Egyptian President, Muhammad Anwtar al-Sadat, on October 6, 1981, while he was watching from the stands, a military parade in Cairo, this assassination, carried out by “Jhamá Islamija” (Islamic People), which did not forgive Sadat, the Camp David Agreement with Israel, under the instigation of the USA. Zawahiri went to Afghanistan on the side of the Taliban fighting Brezhnev’s invading Soviet army, where he met, connected and became close friends with Osama Bin Laden, the billionaire Saudi sheikh who had founded one of the most powerful terrorist organizations in the world, Al Kajdën (Albania – base)! Zawahiri was also accused of the barbaric assassination of November 17, 1997, against a large group of tourists, with 72 victims in Luxor, inside the Temple of Queen Hatshepsut of Egypt (about 3500 years ago). Another variant gives 62 victims! He had also gone to Daghestan, where he was arrested, kept in prison for 6 months by the Soviets! But the most serious charge against Ayman Zawahiri, without any doubt, remains the unique super-assassination of September 11, 2001, with 3,000 victims, at the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York, at the Pentagon and with the plane that crashed in Pennsylvania and whose “architect”, it is already known, was he, the mastermind of a monster of ruthless terrorism!
On December 3, 2001, Ajman escaped an assassination attempt in Zhalabad, where his wife Azza and three children were killed! Then he escaped several other assassinations, such as in May 2004 in Pakistan, in January 2006 in Damadola, (a Pakistani village), where he was also injured! On March 3, 2008, Zawahiri publishes the book “Al Tabrí’a”, in which he strongly retorts with Imam al Sharif, a super repentant Al Qaeda! After the killing of Osama Bin Laden by US Navy SEAL commandos in Abbottabad, Pakistan, Zawahiri becomes the Supreme Leader of Al Qaeda. Although he officially presented himself as his Al Qaeda, he had no connection with the Islamic Caliphate, or ISIS, whose indisputable inspiration remained Zawahiri himself.
And in 2011, popular revolts, known as the ‘Arab Spring’, erupted out of dissatisfaction with corrupt auto-kleptocratic regimes. First in Tunisia, where the autocratic and kleptocratic regime of President Zine ben Abidine Ben Ali, who ruled for almost 25 years, (since he overthrew President Habib Bourguiba, allegedly mentally incompetent, with a coup d’état of “doctors”), had become hated and unbearable by the people! The killing of the itinerant fruit vendor, Muhammad Al Buazizi, by the violent police, was the spark that ignited the burning fire for his corrupt and repressive regime! Ben Ali, when he saw the fury of the people, took his second wife, Leila Trabelsi (a former hairdresser, abusive and hateful, as much as her husband), the six children, three of them with both wives, and fled by plane his, filled to the brim with boxes full of precious stones, gold and foreign currency, to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, where he lived peacefully until he died in 2019! His wealth was estimated at over 5 billion US dollars!
He also had the support of Italy and its SISMI, which “rewarded” him, as he sheltered the Italian socialist prime minister accused of corruption, Betino Kraksi, who, until he passed away in Hammamet, from diabetes, he could not see him again. Italy! The ‘Arab Spring’ came with powerful winds in Libya too, where Gaddafi, who was supposedly “suffering” in the tribal tent, had fabulous wealth, witnessed on video inside his palaces, when they were invaded by the crowds, but not the intuition of Ben Ali ?! Thinking that the people loved him, he did not escape, until he was caught by the crowd, humiliated after being taken out of a tombino and killed by a teenager, with the golden revolver, stolen from him!
Now it was the turn of Egypt, where the autokleptocratic regime of Muhammad Hosni Sayyid Ibrahim Mubarak, in 30 years, had also aroused great dissatisfaction! He and his sons had monopolized billions of dollars in wealth! Freedom Square (Miidan Tahrir), in Cairo was the epicenter of the protests, which lasted for weeks and spread to all the cities of the Nile Delta…! Mubarak was overthrown and arrested along with his two sons, Ala and Gamal, also abusive and corrupt! The death toll is thought to have been high, but exactly how many will probably never be known!
He was released in 2017 and died at the age of 91, in the hospital! The situation was used by the “Muslim Brotherhood”, which won in the generally correct elections and Mohammed Mursi Isa al Ayyat, their moderate representative, specialized in the USA, who also had a merit, kept his word, was declared president. , as he welcomed us with Minister Edmond Panariti and Mr. Nuri Domi in the Presidency, that Egypt, the largest Arab country with 100 million inhabitants, (where the headquarters of the Arab League is also located), would soon recognize Kosovo, which happened shortly after long ago!
On the other hand, the army that ruled for 60 years, and had a lot of power, watched and exploited the popular discontent, even the disillusionment with Morsi of a good part of the “musulmanē brothers” from his reign, the fear of the Orthodox Copts (over 10 million) and their Pope Tewdros, the opposition of the Sheikh of Al Azhar University, Tayyib, the opposition like the independent atomist scientist Baradei, to the Brotherhood, deposed him from power, even arrested and tried him, until he died in prison , in 2019, as well as after him, his predecessor Mubarak in 2020! The army took power again, which put General Muhammad Sayed Hussein Khalil Abd’al Fattah el Sisi at the head of the state!
The desire and aim of the Islamic extremists of the “Brotherhood” and especially Al Qaeda and Zawahiri, to turn Egypt into a Sunni theocratic state, similar to Iran of the Shia ayatollahs, failed and since then, the President is El Sisi, who did not delay he himself was promoted to Feldmareshal! How the events unfolded in Syria (they erupted a few weeks after we presented the Credentials in Damascus), with the protests against the regime of Bashar Hafez al Assad, is known and of course deserves a separate article, but there, Islamic extremism, until the destruction of an ancient and developed civilization with unique monuments like those in Palmyra, (which we were lucky enough to see up close), the civil war, ISIS, and the Kurdish issue, add the Russian intervention, require special analysis!
The USA under President Obama, played poorly in politics and diplomacy, in other words, instead of raising eyebrows, it turned its eyes, especially in completely destroyed Syria with over 250,000 killed and millions displaced! We discussed this opinion several times in a friendly manner with the two American Ambassadors in Cairo, Margaret Scobay and Anne Patersson (who, after Egypt, was appointed Deputy Secretary of DASH)! The only good thing was the victory over ISIS and the Islamic Caliphate, which by beheading live Western hostages and other barbarities, gained world hatred! The leaders of this state, both improvised and primitive, were almost all killed, such as Abu Bakr al Baghdadi, Ibrahim al Hashimi al Qurayshi, Maher Al Agal, Abu Osama al Masri, Abu Hasan al Muhaxhir, Jalaluddin Haqqani, Abu Musab al Zarqawi, etc., etc.!
It is interesting that one of the most wanted terrorists of Al Qaeda, Sirajuddin Haqqani, is today the Minister of the government of the Afghan Taliban?! The CIA offered a reward of $25 million to anyone who would provide reliable information on the whereabouts of Ayman al-Zawahiri, to whom it finally arrived on the evening of July 31!
