The document with the minutes of the interrogation of the defendant Tuk Jakova, by the investigator of the State Security Directorate, Irfan Shaqiri
Process – verbal
Tirana, January 20, 1958
I, the investigator of the State Security Directorate, Irfan Shaqiri, asked the defendant Tuka Jakova.
The question started at 12.00
The question ended at 17.00
Question: Tell us about the hostile talks that took place between you and Bedri Spahiu.
Answer: When I, Tuku, went to Elbasan on duty in January 1956, I went to Bedri Spahiu’s house, where I found his wife and his wife’s mother. When I left, I took off my clothes because I had them wet from the rain, which Bedri’s wife, Nedoja, honored to dry, and gave me something to wrap around, after greeting them, Bedri said to me: you did not have fear that came, said this word to me with a laugh. He asked me why you came to Elbasan and I told him; for the work of the enterprise and as soon as I came to the hotel, I decided to come here to sleep with you.
After drinking coffee, we started asking each other how they came, how they live, etc. I informed him about a rationalization I had done in the company, for which I was rewarded with 10,000 ALL. He was interested and I told him the work I had done. Bedri had also made a rationalization and was waiting to be rewarded.
Then, Bedri told me that he had made a prayer to retire, because, according to the calculations he had made, such a thing belonged to him, at the beginning of this conversation, these conversations took place between me and Bedri, until we a woman came with a girl or a boy, now I do not remember, and that this woman was the martyred mother from Elbasan, was Bedri’s mother.
The old woman, during her stay, told us how her son was killed in the National Liberation War, for the work of the ‘National Front’, how this conversation ended, she stayed there with us for about a couple of hours and a half and then departed.
During the time we started the first conversations and that the old woman went with the child, Nedoja, the shopping went shopping and was preparing dinner. So when the old woman left, Nedoja served us dinner and we ate. Then Nedoja, told us where the sleeping clothes were and left with all his mother and children to sleep.
Around 9:30 or 10 (22.) I stayed in the room alone with Bedri and we started from political talks, but even during this time, we got into family and work conversations. I, Tuku, first told Bedri that; what was this misfortune for us and Bedriu said that it became very bad and in this matter was influenced by comrade Enver, yes, I agree, I told him, otherwise there is no way to explain.
Bedri told me that; you Tuk, do not think that comrade Mehmet and I did it, I replied that; I do not have this opinion, but I agree with you. I told him that; Mehmeti may have thrown gasoline on the fire, but he is not the main one.
Bedri then went on to tell me that; the cause of disasters, Comrade Enver, is not only for us but for others as well. I said to him: what happened to Comrade Enver, or was he not touched by the criticism, that I have always been good with him. Bedri said that; criticism from Comrade Enver, was taken as if this were addressed to him personally.
Then, the conversation went to Koçi Xoxe, that’s how we got things done in a hurry and without going deeper; we made mistakes, such as the case of Koçi Xoxe. – I asked him about this, telling him that; explain to me how Koçi Xoxa’s work is, because you Bedri know better from the facts, since you were also a prosecutor in his trial, because, I tell him, I am of the same opinion, that in the case of Koçi Xoxes, we were wrong.
Bedriu said that; Koçi Xoxe had mistaken and flaws, but the rest of us also had mistaken and flaws, but, as for the main accusation, with which he was convicted, as an agent of the Yugoslavs, now this thesis falls, because the Yugoslav leadership does not we are an agency of Imperialism, but a leadership that builds socialism, this was confirmed by the Communist Party of the Soviet Union and its leaders. This cannot be discussed.
For this, said Bedriu, Stalin and Beria are responsible for confusing this work, therefore today, it turns out that Koçi Xoxja has become a victim of the situation. As for that time, we could not stay without condemning Koçi, because such circumstances were created, but in today’s circumstances, he must be rehabilitated.
With this opinion of Bedri, I, Tuku, completely agreed, not only with this explanation, but already, when I saw that Rajku was rehabilitated, I had reached this conclusion myself.
Then we went to the relations with Yugoslavia, here Bedriu told me that Dhora Leka, sent by the Yugoslavs, had come to him to ask him how Bedriu viewed the relations with Yugoslavia and the case of Koci Xoxa, and if Bedriu had material regarding the investigative and judicial process that had been conducted against Koci Xoxes.
I told Bedri, I answered, Dhora Lekë, that I consider our country’s relations with Yugoslavia useful, that Koçi Xoxja was a victim of the situation and that I have no material on this issue, but it is published in the newspaper.
Then I told Bedri that Dhora sent to me by the Yugoslavs had also come to me, who, through Dora, also wanted to know the same things. I told him that I answered like you, regarding the issue of relations and the issue of Koci Xoxa, while about what; if the existing leadership brings obstacles, I have told him there is no other solution but with this leadership, and if there is no good will on both sides, the issue is resolved through the mediation of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union.
But since Dora, I have raised questions with the Yugoslavs about how the Yugoslav leadership justifies its intervention in our country. I told Bedri that this question had not been well received by the Yugoslavs and had told Dhorë that; Tuku still retains the old views on the matter that he does not know the close and intimate relations that exist between their leadership and the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union.
He had told Dhara that he personally wanted to meet with me and explain to me, while regarding the issue of relations with Yugoslavia, he had told Dhara that the issue had to be resolved between the two parties, and that your party has strength. Even to the Central Committee, to resolve this issue.
As for economic aid, I told Bedri, I refused it and Bedri agreed with me. I told Bedri that the Yugoslavs are also to blame, that there was interference on their part, Bedri said; yes how is it possible, they are building socialism and at the same time calling them intruders, though strange I said, but that is a fact, because we have lived such a thing, then finally, Bedri said; yes how is it possible, with socialists and intruders.
Then we talked about the measures taken in the party, I explained to Bedri how Liri Belishova had behaved towards my friend, Mita. Although she has attended the Party school in the Soviet Union and knows the rules, she had shouted at Mita at last; hand over the card and he had taken it out, just as the proprietress expels the farmer from the manor. I wondered how it was not done for a man to rise up in the apparatus organization of the Central Committee and point out, that these are violations of the internal rules of the Party.
Continuing the conversation with Bedri, we managed to talk about the measures taken by the party against various elements, even the leaders of the Party.
We did not talk about each person separately and concretely, but we looked at the issue as forums and it turned out that from the Provisional Central Committee, no one was left in the lead, only Comrade Enver! Also, from the Bureau that was elected at the 1st Conference in Labinot, and from the Bureau that was elected in Berat, there is no one left but Comrade Enver, while from the Conference that was elected in Labinot, there is no one left but comrade Enver, Hysniu and Gogoja.
We called this situation abnormal, or anomalies and thought that such anomalies could occur only where the cult of the individual prevails, we thought that for this anomaly, the main responsibility falls on Comrade Enver, that Enver has an individual cult and leadership should look at these, where more severe measures have been taken, or as the case may be, correct them. For all this, Bedri also agreed.
After the Tirana Conference, when Bedriu was in Tirana and met Dhorë on the street, and asked him about me, then he told Dhorë, say Tuku that Bedriu stands by those views as we agreed together in Elbasan. Dhora had told this to Mita, when the latter was in Tirana.
From September 1956, when Frano had received the permit, he came to Berat, and Bedri had told him the same things as Dhora Lekë. When Frano returned to Gramash, I told Tuku to tell Bedri that I also hold that view. /Memorie.al
