1930 – Born in Gjakova Besim Bokshi, linguist, professor and academic. He was a member of the commission for conclusions of the Linguistic Consultation of Prishtina in 1968 and a delegate to the Congress of Albanian Spelling in Tirana in 1973. Balkan. 1948 – In Tokyo, the International Military Tribunal for the Far East sentences seven Japanese military and government officials, including General Hideki Tojo, to death for their role in World War II. Also known as Japan’s Nuremberg, this trial witnessed before the eyes of the world, the degree of cruelty that the Imperial Japanese Army had undertaken over occupied countries like China, or Korea. 1958 – A team of climbers led by Warren Harding complete the first ascent of El Capitan’s The Nose in the Yosemite Valley. 1969 – Chinese politician Liu Shaoci dies at the age of 70. Shaoci, was a Chinese revolutionary, politician and theorist. He was Chairman of the Standing Committee of the PKK from 1954 to 1959. First Vice-Chairman of the Communist Party of China from 1956 to 1966 and Chairman (President) of the People’s Republic of China, President de jure, from 1959 until 1968, during which he implemented economic reconstruction policies in China. He died in prison during the Cultural Revolution period.
1970 – One of the strongest cyclones ever to hit India and Pakistan not only in these two countries but also worldwide. Cyclone Bhola of 1970 was a devastating tropical storm that struck East Pakistan and West Bengal of India. It remains the deadliest tropical cyclone ever recorded. At least 500,000 people lost their lives in this catastrophe, mainly as a result of rising water, which flooded most of the low-lying islands of the Gang River delta.
1980 – Famous Hollywood actor Ryan Gosling is born in Ontario. Gosling, is a Canadian actor and musician. He began his career as a child actor at Disney Mickey Mouse Club, and went on to appear in other family entertainment programs, including Goosebumps. His first cinematographic role was as a neo-Nazi Jew in the film The Believer. Ryan Gosling, continued to star in several independent films, including Murder by Numbers, The Slaughter Rule, and in the United States of Leland.
1982 – In the Soviet Union, Yuri Andropov becomes General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party, succeeding Leonid Brezhnev. After the 18-year rule of Leonid Brezhnev, Andropov served in this post from November 1982 until his death in February 1984. During this period the USSR would experience a deep political, economic, and social crisis as a result of spending major in the military sector.
1987 – Llazar Gusho, nicknamed Lasgush Poradeci, passed away. Teacher, translator. In 1921 he enrolled at the National School of Fine Arts in Bucharest, after a year with complaints about overcoming the xenocentric wave that had gripped the Romanian government. There he became associated with the patriotic movement of the Albanian colony, became friends with Asdren, whom he replaced as general secretary of the colony. The following year he returned to Tirana to study art at a high school. After the Italian occupation, he was a member of the Institute of Albanian Studies. In 1944-’47, he was unemployed and lived in the capital with his wife. After a short-term employment at the Institute of Sciences, the predecessor of the University of Tirana, he started working as a regular translator at the state publishing house “Naim Frashëri” until he retired in 1974.
2003 – The Shanghai Transrapid train sets a new world speed record. This record reached 500 kilometers per hour for commercial rail systems. This train remains the fastest for unmodified commercial rail vehicles. During this record the train was piloted by Jonathan Teixeira. This commercial line is the third in the world after that of Great Britain and Germany, which functions as a Maglev train.
