Memorie.al publishes the unknown story of the family of Haki Mulleti, the brother of the former Prefect of Tirana, who in 1920 graduated in Vienna at the Faculty of Civil Administration and then returned to Albania, being appointed to the position. of the Secretary General of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, where he worked until the end of December 1924, when Zogu returned to power. Although Haki Mulleti left politics serving for 20 years as Secretary General of the Muslim Community of Albania, he did not share his vicissitudes, as he was arrested twice by King Zog, because his brother, Qazimi , was accused of being one of the three assassins who shot at the King as he was leaving the Vienna Opera.
Haki’s escape to Greece after the communists came to power in November 1944 and his arrest by the Greek communists in Thessaloniki who extradited him to Albania and the trial where he was taken under the protection of Myslym Peza, a close friend of the Mullets, who had opened the mortuary when Shyqëri Peza had died. The deportation of Haki in Kavaja as a family and the confiscation of the big house in the center of Tirana where the family of Major General Mihllaq Ziçishti was placed, as well as his mysterious death in the Civil Hospital of Tirana where he was hospitalized by his close friend, Dr. Ndroqi, to rest for a few days and to get upset with the people he had in Tirana…?!
“In 1945, after our father, Haki Mulletin, was handed over to the Greek communists in Kapshtica, the Albanian communists brought him before the court together with 18 other people who were all sentenced to be shot. Only Hakiu escaped without being shot, as he was assisted by Myslym Peza, who himself went to court as a witness. My father suffered only four years in prison, and when he was released in 1948, we were deported with our family to Kavaja, where we stayed for ten years. “In 1958, when the father received permission from the Internal Affairs Branch and came for consolation in a death in Tirana, he was poisoned by a nurse at the Tirana Hospital, who was forced by the Security to make a lethal needle.”
The man who speaks and testifies for Memorie.al, is Tanush Mulleti, the nephew of the mayor of Tirana, Qazim Mulleti, who testifies about the tragic death of his father, Haki, one of the famous Tirana intellectuals, graduated in Civil Administration in Vienna. Who was the Mulleti family, where did their suckers graduate, what official positions did they hold until 1944 and how were they persecuted by the communist regime of Enver Hoxha?
Hakiu, student in Vienna
Haki Mulleti was born in 1900 in a well-known Tirana family and he received his first lessons from the Albanian language teacher of Tirana, Hafiz Ibrahim Dalliu. At the age of 13 he was sent to study in Vienna. In this regard, Haki’s son, Tanush Mulleti testifies: “During the time that the father was attending high school in the Austrian capital, he settled in a small Pension hotel and was taken into custody by an elderly couple, who took care of him like their own child. After finishing high school with very good results, Hakiu was very eager to pursue higher university studies in Mechanical Engineering (for grinding mills), but one of the professors He said to him: “You will enter the branch of Civil Administration”, as you Albanians have now started to build your state, and the country is in great need of staff of this branch. After that Hakiu attended higher studies in that branch which was recommended to him by his professor and he completed it with very good results in 1920. During the period that Hakiu stayed in Vienna, there were also some other Albanians, such as Ndoc Naraçi, Dr. Frederik Shiroka etc., with him which my father had and ru ajti always a close friendship “, recalls Tanush Mulleti, Hakiun, who in 1920 graduated from the Civil Administration branch in the Austrian capital.
Arrested twice by Zogu
After graduating, Haki Mulleti was offered a job in the Austrian capital, Vienna, but he refused because at that time a telegram came to him from Albania, the Albanian Prime Minister of that time, Sulejman bey Delvina, writing to him: “To return urgent in Tirana, after you have been charged with the post of Secretary General of the Ministry of Interior “. In this regard, Tanushi says: “After that telegram, my father immediately came to Tirana and served until 1925 when Ahmet Zogu returned to power and immediately fired Haki. This happened because his brother, and at the same time our uncle., Qazim Mulleti, who had been the chairman of the fan organization youth organization “Bashkimi”, had fled Albania and was in political emigration as an anti-Zogist. the fact that he had been one of Fan Noli’s closest advisers during the six months of his rule, and a few months after his dismissal, Haki was elected Secretary General of the Muslim Community of Albania, a position he held for 20 years. until 1944. But even during this period when his father was serving with the Muslim Community, he not only was not well received by King Zog, but on the contrary, was arrested twice by him. iut was made in 1931, after the assassination of King Zog in Vienna, where one of the three assassins were his brother, Qazim Mulleti. But Hakiu did not stay arrested for long, after Minister Sali Vuititerni intervened with King Zog, who was forced to release my father, who had no knowledge of what his brother was doing in Vienna. “Hakiu was arrested for the second time in 1935 when the Fier Uprising took place and at that time his father was interned in the city of Gjirokastra, where he was accommodated in a hotel and ate and drank with the commander of the Gendarmerie”, testifies Tanush Mulleti, related to his father.
Haki’s arrest by the communists
Although during the nearly 20-year period that Haki Mulleti stayed in the Muslim Community of Albania, he was not involved in politics and was arrested twice by Zog, in 1944 he was forced to leave Albania for fear of the Communists. In this regard, Tanushi testifies: “When the end of the war and the seizure of power by the communists was a matter of days, Hakiu fled Tirana and settled in Thessaloniki. A few days before he left for Greece, they had fled Albania and settled His two brothers, Qazimi and Hysni, also lived in Vienna, but his father’s political emigration to Greece did not last long, as he was arrested by the communists in early 1945, when he was temporarily staying in a hotel in Thessaloniki. His arrest was mistaken, confusing him with Xhelal Staravecka, for whom it was a special order from Enver Hoxha to be captured and extradited to Tirana, but when Haki was handed over at the Kapshtica border crossing “Even though it was seen that he was not Staravecka, they still did not release him.” So much the better than this is our brother Qazim Mulleti, “said the Albanian communists, when they took him in hand over by the Greek communists. sometime in the investigator and then de nuan with four years in prison. Along with Haki, 18 other people appeared in court, all of whom were sentenced to be shot, and only the father escaped, as he was assisted by Myslym Peza, who went to court himself as a witness. Myslim Peza defended Haki, as his brother Shyqëri Peza, our family had a house friend and when he died, Qazim Mulleti opened the mortuary. Likewise, during the War, Muslim himself had taken refuge in our house and because of him the Italians wanted to burn down our house. In addition to Myslim Peza, the forgiveness of Haki’s life was influenced by another person who had a lot of power in his hand. After Haki’s sentence, our big house that we still have today was seized and the Deputy Minister of Interior, Mihallaq Ziçishti, was placed there, who not only did not behave badly with our family, but when his father was released from prison in 1948, he vacated our house for ten days so that we could wait for people “, testifies Tanush Mulleti, regarding the arrest and sentence of his father in 1945.
Mysterious death in Tirana hospital
After his release from prison in 1948, Haki Mulleti was interned with his family in the city of Kavaja. Regarding this and his mysterious death in the hospital of Tirana, Tanushi testifies: “In the city of Kavaja our family remained interned until 1958 and during that time my father worked in the most difficult jobs in agriculture and in a construction company. In those years, Haki was called to the Internal Branch at night, where after being barbarically tortured, he was brought home in the morning, which was interrupted only for a while, when Shyqëri Rrjolli from Shkodra was brought as the head of the Kavaja Branch. that our family was in Kavaja, we were found near some noble families like that of Haxhi Alushi, Sulejman Karkin, Kichevo, Veizi, Turaj, etc. in Tirana for consolation to the Këlliçi family, whom we had relatives, where he met his old friend, Dr. Ndroqin, who told him to spend some time in vain in the hospital and then to give a few days report medical, so that he had the opportunity to stay and get bored with his relatives. But while his father was hospitalized in the civil hospital of Tirana without being ill, he died unexpectedly in the most mysterious way. From that time, we learned that he was poisoned by the State Security, but we learned the truth much later from Reshat Petrela, who was hospitalized in a room with Haki. In Reshat’s presence, a nurse asked for an injection from Haki, but he objected, saying he was not ill. “But she insisted a lot, telling him that it was the doctor’s order and five minutes after the injection, Hakiu gave up the ghost by not giving him any medical help”, Tanushi remembers regarding the mysterious death of his father, Haki.
Persecution of the Mullets
The persecution of Haki Mullet’s family, as well as that of his brother, Qazim, had in fact begun as early as 1945, when Haki had just been arrested. At that time, the State Security arrested Haki’s eldest daughter, Donika (or Sabahet, as she was called by the family), who had gone and lived with her uncles (Ramadan Muka’s family) in the city of Shkodra. Sabaheti was subjected to a lot of psychological pressure by investigators, wanting to implicate her in an anti-communist organization together with her two friends, Vidha Xhaferri and Meliha Doda. From numerous pressures, Sabaheti was poisoned with blood and died in hospital together with her friend, Vidha Xhaferri, while the other friend, Melihaja, escaped after fleeing to Vlora. Regarding the suffering of Haki Mulleti’s family, after his death, Tanushi testifies: “After the death of his father, Mihallaq Ziçishti came to our house (with all his mother who had come to him from Korça to meet him) who very kindly addressed to Pertephe, our mother, saying, “With the death of Haki, the accounts with your family were closed and now I believe they will not be harassed anymore. Therefore, I will try to bring you from exile to live here in the basements of your house. “But a few days later, Mihallaq was transferred to the city of Korça and our family ended up in exile in the city of Shkodra, where together with my mother and three sisters, Vera, Bardhë and Dhuratën, we stayed until the beginning of the ’90s “, concludes his story Tanush Mulleti, regarding the sufferings of his family, which he followed for almost half a century from behind the ghost of the name of the uncle, Qazim and the evil shadow of the class war that was not shared until the fall of the communist regime./Memorie.al
