Memorie.al publishes for the first time a rare photo of former American servicemen of Albanian origin who during the Second World War, joined the ranks of the United States Armed Forces, and fought on the Pacific fronts (against Japan) and in Europe (against Germany). There are no accurate statistics but it is believed that the number of Albanian immigrants enlisted in the US Army during World War II was relatively high. Even one of the most famous exponents of the US Intelligence Service during the years 1939 – 1945 (OSS), named Thomas Stephan (Thoma Stefani) was attached to the General Staff of the UNCSH, and personally to Enver Hoxha himself.
The photo in question was taken several years after the end of the war, where the former Albanian-American military would already enjoy the status of “Veteran of the Second World War”. From left to right: Angelo Andoni, George Ratska, James Kosmo, George Chani, Louis Kosmo, Nick Toska, William Kosmo, Steve Peters, and James Kristo. Ulur, Dr. Andrea Elia, Paul Apostoli, Al Tromara, Peter Chani, John Chicos, and Peter Lucas.
