1944 – The massacre of February 4, 1944 took place. In the area of New Tirana, on February 3, the communist guerrillas suddenly assassinated the car of the regime authorities, where Kadri Cakrani’s close companion was wounded or killed. Late in the afternoon of February 3, guerrillas of the communist circle make a surprise armed blow to the car of Minister Xhafer Deva, injuring and dying in hospital his nephew, the teenager Fahri Ibrahimi. The SNP tract for that massacre traced the number of 86 killed, but names identify only 24 killed. 1945 – During World War II, the Yalta Conference between the three greats, Churchill, Roosevelt, and Stalin, is held. This conference was held at the Livadia Palace in Crimea. The Yalta Conference was held with the aim of dividing post-WWII Europe’s borders between Anglo-Americans and Russians. One of the decisions made at this conference was to leave it within the eastern bloc of Albania.
1969 – Yasser Arafat, elected Chairman of the Palestine Liberation Organization. It is an organization established in 1964 with the aim of, through most of its armed struggle, to target Israeli civilians. She is known as the “legitimate representative of the Palestinian people” from over 100 countries with which she has diplomatic relations, and has enjoyed observer status at the United Nations since 1974.
1975 – Born in Sydney, Natalie Imbruglia. Imbruglia, is an Australian-British songwriter, model, and actress. In the early 1990s, she played Beth Brennan in the Australian soap opera Neighbors. Three years after leaving the program, she embarked on a career in the music field with her top-charting cover of Ednaswap’s song “Torn”. Her follow-up album, Left of the Middle (1997), sold 7 million copies worldwide.
1992 – A coup is waged by Hugo Chavez against Venezuelan President Carlos Andres Pérez. The 1992 Venezuelan coup attempt was some attempt to seize control of Caracas’s government from the Bolivarian Revolutionary Movement led by Hugo Chavez. During the coup, nearly 300 people were killed and over 200 were injured. Chavez would take power a few years later.
2004 – Facebook, one of the largest social networking sites, is founded by Mark Zuckerberg. Other co-founders of Facebook were Harvard College students and fellow students such as Eduardo Saverin, Andrew McCollum, Dustin Moskovitz, and Chris Hughes. Today, Facebook is ranked No. 2 in the world behind Instagram, with about 3 billion users, in over 100 countries around the world.
2014 – Ibrahim Madhi, one of the most important figures of Albanian music and performing arts, passed away. Known for his magnificent formation and musicality, the outstanding musician has made a valuable contribution to the formation of the national school of musical interpretation. For his merits and special contribution, he enjoyed the highest art title in Albania: “People’s Artist”. His name is associated not only with being a brilliant soloist, but at the same time also a perfect leader of chamber music groups and string orchestras. The cheering for the Albanian school of violin performance cannot be understood without the name of Ibrahim Madhi as one of the central figures of this school. The beginnings of his pedagogical activity belong to 1962, previously as a teacher of the violin class at the Artistic High School “J. Misja” and then, in 1965, near I.L. Arts. For more than 40 years of teaching career, he has prepared entire generations of prominent violinists and musicians.
2019 – Died at age 55, in Lappeenranta, Matti Nykanen. Nykanen was a Finnish skier who raced from 1981 to 1991. He is considered the best skier of all time. Nykanen won five Winter Olympic medals (four gold), nine World Championship medals (five gold), and 22 Finnish Championship medals (14 gold). Matti has been decorated as Finland’s most famous sport.
