1947 – A civil war breaks out in Palestine, leading to the creation of the state of Israel. The civil war of 1947-1948 in mandated Palestine was the first phase of the 1948 war. It erupted after the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution on November 29, 1947 recommending the adoption of the Partition Plan for Palestine. The two largest communities, the Arab and the Jewish, were militarily involved in the conflict. While the British, took on the role of peacekeepers.
1954 – In Sylacauga, Alabama, a Hodge meteorite hits a roof and hits a sleeping woman. This is the only documented case in the western hemisphere of a human being hit by a fallen rock, from space. The Sylacauga meteor fell at 12:46 local time (18:46 UT) in Oak Grove, Alabama, near Sylacauga. It is also commonly referred to as the Hodges meteorite because a fragment of it hit Ann Elizabeth Fowler Hodges. This meteor weighed 6 kg.
1960 – Gary Lineker is born in Leicester. Lineker, is a former professional English footballer and current sports broadcaster. He holds the English record for goals in the FIFA World Cup final, with 10 goals scored. Lineker’s media career began with the BBC, where he has presented the Match of the Day football program since the late 1990s. He has also worked for Al Jazeera Sports, Eredivisie Live, NBC Sports Network and is currently the director of coverage BT Sport of the UEFA Champions League.
1972 – During the Vietnam War, White House Press Secretary Ron Ziegler declares to the media that there will be no more public announcements about the withdrawal of American troops from Vietnam because troop levels have now dropped to 27,000. After this year the number of US military forces in this country, was significantly reduced. This, in turn, led to the eventual withdrawal of US troops from Vietnam. In this 20-year conflict they left nearly 60 thousand killed.
1982 – Michael Jackson’s sixth solo album, Thriller, is released worldwide, becoming the best-selling record album in music history. Thriller is the sixth studio album by American singer Michael Jackson, released November 30, 1982, in the United States by Epic Records and internationally by CBS Records. The recording took place from April to November 1982 at Westlake Recordings Studios in Los Angeles, with a production of $ 750,000. Thriller explores genres including pop, post-disco, rock and funk.
1999 – British Aerospace and Marconi Electronic Systems merge to form BAE Systems, Europe’s largest defense contractor and the world’s fourth-largest aerospace firm. BAE Systems, is a British defense, security and aerospace company. It is headquartered in London, United Kingdom with worldwide offices. BAE Systems is a manufacturer of various aircraft, ships, armored vehicles, armaments and electronic defense companies.
2013 – George H. W. Bush dies at the age of 94. Also known as George Bush (the first), he was an American politician and businessman who served as the 41st President of the United States from 1989 to 1993. He is commonly referred to as George HW Bush to distinguish him from his son elder, George W. Bush, who served as president from 2001 to 2009. A member of the Republican Party, Bush also served in the U.S. House of Representatives.
